Would it be much more of an expense to just get the Ford covers you shared earlier and modify them to work with the stock EFI setup? You're already going to have to go to the trouble of adding the oil filler neck to the TF covers.

i ended up finding covers off an f150 for 30 dollars on ebay and had them powder coated silver. they shine much nicer in person. im using an ev-68c pcv and running it to the back of my manifold. looks so nice. the ford logo is a nice touch.

Ok so took some pics. I was all gung ho on the ford racing valve covers, but now not so sure. The silver TFS covers might be nicer

If you go black, you need some more black accents on the intake. Maybe black in the recesses of the lines? Otherwise, if you’re sold on the intake as is, go with the silver covers. JMO

Springs showed up. Lets get this done. Going to weight the existing TFS-supplied springs and compare them to the LSx style coils with the Tool Steel hardware. In addition to being the correct seat pressure and able to handle the lift, they are supposedly lighter. So lets find out

Curious,do you know what brand springs comes as standard on TFS heads?
I know when I purchased the 11r's from FordStrokers the bare castings are built up using PAC duals.I'm almost positive the PAC's will be fine for my tiny 221/227@.050 .555/.565 lift cam but may need to do a little homework.

I believe they are the standard TFS dual springs that you can buy separately. I had the specs on paperwork I got with the heads. Was going to track it down so I can toss the springs on eBay. My custom cam is also .555/.565

Here are the Lunati springs. I did opt for Tool Steel over Chromoly, so total cost was about $450 shipped.

No instructions at all

I’ll have weight differences tomorrow when I take a setup to work

What made you choose tool steel over chromoly? Just curious

Eh, one of those shoot at the hip decisions really. Mostly for weight savings, as my PTV clearance is pretty close and I want the spring to control the valve as best it can. I figured shaving off a few grams wouldn't hurt, even if my intake valve chases the piston so valve float really isn't a concern for that clearance. Long story short...i probably spent an extra $100 i didn't need to.

This is the spring kit BTW

Weights: Lets compare. Took them to work and weighed on a calibrated scale.

Original hardware supplied by TFS (dual springs, chromoly steel retainer).
Spring, keepers and retainer: 160.5 grams
Spring: 126.0 g
Keepers + retainer: 35.6 g
retainer only: 32.5 g

Lunati Spring kit.
Springs, keepers and retainer: 107.8 grams
Spring: 88.0 grams
Keepers + retainer: 19.8 g
retainer only: 16.5 g

Pretty big difference in weight. There's a significant difference in the spring weight, but the retainer weight is less than 50% of the original TFS retainer. Multiply the difference by 16 valves and you get a total weight reduction of 843 grams. If you count only the keepers + retainer, it's a savings of 250 grams off the valve train. That's pretty significant.

Lets look at it another way with.

TFS total keepers + retainers for all 8 cyl: 1.25 lbs
Lunatic total keepers and retainers: 0.7 lbs.

Almost 1/2 pound off the keepers/retainer, which are moving the full range of valve movement.

Started my install. I checked spring pressures at work on a stand we have. They are rated at 153# at 1.810”. Values I got were pretty close and consistent.

I measured some installed heights when I got home and found some variation. One was 1.890” and another 1.850”.

I believe my spec is 1.810” +/- 0.020” to achieve 153# on the seat. Ed called for 140-150# on the seat.

Shims are on order. The nickle and diming continues.

Happy new year

Looks like I goofed up AGAIN on the pushrods.

Got the right lenght, but I inadvertently ordered the SUMMIT brand pushrods instead of the TFS pushrods I wanted.

I know summit has other major manufacturers make their parts, so who makes summits pushrods?

I’d hate to send them back to get TFS to find out these are made by comp.

Preferred valve seal install method?

The TFS ones are the spring band type that press on pretty easy by hand. These are full metal shell.

Do I need the tool? Or 12mm 12pt Socket will do with a lot of oil?

The tool allows the seal to be captured and only apply pressure to the outer shell, might be hard to do with a socket.
Good luck

Found a number of tools, but the issue is not knowing the correct size I need.

But I think I have some sockets that will work

The black originals definitely are easier to remove. I think the new ones will need to be driven on lightly

Can’t do anything until my spring shims arrive. Damn amazon prime is taking 6 days! Wtf!

I have them all measures out and ready. I really want to wrap the engine up and start on the car
