My buddy just picked up a used 05 for $21,000 with 19k on it (not a bad deal). He says his stock 05 will beat my moded 01 at the track. I'm thinking it would be close but I think I could take him. What do you guys think?

No disrespect, but the 05+ Mustang will probably take your car, especially if its a 5 speed. His motor is rated @ roughly 40 more hp @ the crank then yours stock 4 stock & not to mention yours is an auto. Not sure what kinda #s yours is pushing with those mods, but even if his is an auto, he still has the hp advantage. They do weigh a few hundred more pounds though, but I dont think its that big of a deal.

I think his car will take yours. But it could come down to the driver as well. If you're a much better driver than he is you could take him.

Yeah his is a 5 speed. Are our cars that much slower that we have to spend lots of money just to make them equal to the 05+ stangs? I figure with all my mods I should have at least 30+ hp over stock. Then again 30hp over stock is still only 290hp at the crank or around 247rwhp.

Sad but true if he is a good driver you will lose.
I have seen some 3V's dyno 270-280 rwhp bone stock.
Anything can happen at the track though.

I have raced 3 of the 05+'s at the track, and they all have ran 13.5X's or better against me. They have all been 5 speeds to tho. This is with my current mods.

Has this guy ever owned or driven a rwd V8? Because if not, my bet is he goes up in smoke off the line on his first two runs. With a good launch he'll take you though...

Nop, and he has never driven a 5 speed. Hes teaching him self on his stang. He stalled it last night trying to back up 3 times. Granted I was sitting in my car laughing. Yes I have an auto but I have drivein a stick.

you probably have 15-20rwhp over stock with those mods.

you should be able to beat the driver of the 05, but you know that the 05 is the faster car.

My car with midpipe and catback and some fresh stock replacement parts (but otherwise stock dynoed at 240 last Saturday.

If he is a bad driver you should take him. If he can control his car off the line your car is done because of the 3v's top end.

yea its the sad truth. I had to put 3.73 gears and a good bit of boltons on my 5spd to keep up with my brother he takes me now that he is geared but before when he was just tuned and intake it was dead even. and im a way better driver than him. his first time at the track he was running 8.9s bogging the launch so its some crap.
