I love this forum!

I just saw a thread in which some people were fairly upset about the idea of modding a shelby. being that that's a subject close to my heart, I'm hoping to revive the conversation.

here's some recent pics of my 07...

my original plan was to leave the shelby hood/scoop unmolested (hence, the current gt hood), but that's now out the window, as I'm in the process of cutting it open to make the scoop 'functional' and then painting it.



I figure, I have a 401K for retirement, so I'm not really worried about my shelby losing it's "collectors" status. plus, by the time shelby's are worth anything more than what I paid for it, more than likely, I'll be worm food, so I figure I might as well enjoy it as much as possible, right now, while I'm young enough to do so. also, I love when people tell me that they've never seen a shelby like mine. a couple have even asked where they could get one just like it.

Well, I have a 401K also. Over the last year or so it has dropped in value like a rock. I am finally seeing part of it come back.
I don't know if an original Shelby will ever be worth as much as the older ones. But even if they don't become that valuable, the fact is they are special cars already factory modded.
If you want to mod a car that much, why not begin with a GT? I personally would not modify special editions. You asked to get this going again. Here goes.
In my opinion, you would have made a GT much better by what you did. But I think you have ruined the Shelby.
I think it is difficult to even tell it was once a Shelby.

no guarantees you'll ever live to see that 401K come to you. Chances are good you will, but life has a funny way. If you live your life as well as you can everyday, you won't have many regrets when you're 401K eligible. Beautiful car, drive it, do whatever you want to it that makes it yours. Then enjoy it.

and thank you for the feedback, stan. I can assure you that it's still very much a shelby and everyone that sees it in person don't doubt it for a minute. the original shelby mods were cool n all, but I wanted something different, but I still wanted it to be a shelby. if I'd bought a gt, I wouldn't have a shelby, no matter how many mods I threw at it.

where else do you post? i've seen your sgt before, i really like those rims on your car, as a whole package it looks sweet, i dont think those wheels would look half as good on mine.

I once had a 2003 Mach 1. Torch red, manual, beautiful car. I was hesitant to mod it in any way since it was a special edition.
I have a mildly modded 2007 GTnow. I am actually more satisfied with it since I have no reservations about modifying a GT. If I had a Shelby or other limited edition car I wouldn't touch it.
I have a 1966 Mustang convertible, completely original.
Ideally, I would have many, many Mustangs so I could keep those that are rare original and modify the others as I please without any guilt.
I just can't modify older Mustangs or the more recent special editions. There is just something in me that won't let me do it.
As I said, that's why I enjoy my GT so much more than I did the Mach 1.
Is there a good Mustang therapist out there?

lol @ stan! I hear you though... I guess if I ever got my hands on an original old school stang, I wouldn't mod it either...but that would be different, as it would already be worth something in it's original condition. these late model stangs, original or not, just continue to depreciate, so I just can't see depriving myself of the mod bug because it's a "special edition". in fact, I kinda like the idea of owning a one-off special addition...makes it a little more special in my mind.

autumn, you are correct! I did post on another forum concerning the lnr spoiler that I'd installed. I wound up taking it off. just didn't look right, imo.

yeah i like your car without the spoiler. wish mine didnt have one. if ford used all 4 bolts the same size on my car for the spoiler i would take it off and put plugs ,but it'd look weird with 4 diff size plugs haha. not willing to weld up them up at this current place and time.

ah one other thing i noticed, the brembos? those arent stock are they? i know some of the things the shelby gts come with, wasnt sure if brakes were an option or not.

correct again, autumn. sgt's came with standard gt bakes. I got the brembos for a song and a dance on ebay.

red, those emblems were only available on sgt's. they can be found on ebay occasionally, but being that shelby owns the rights to them and they won't allow ford to sell them to the public, people wind up bidding outrageous amounts of money on them ($200+ on average).

Awesome Stang, Nite!!!!! Mega kudos to you for not being scared to mod a special edition to make it truly "your" car!!!!! I wouldn't be affraid to mod a special edition as I'd never own a vehicle based on its current or future value! I want to own vehicles I can drive and enjoy at a moments notice!

I was able to buy a couple of the Shelby emblems that were "accidentially" released to the public. They cost a small fortune, not as much as some want on ebay. They are much, much different than the other emblems.

your car looks awesome! I really like the front GT500 lip you added.I personally dont like all the additions that Shelby made to the GT, especially for what Shelby charges for his "upgrades". Dont like the decal stripes.Shoulda painted em on there. Who cares what people say about how you ruined it. I think not, I am more displeased about people who buy cars like these and never drive them. They were built to be driven and modded.Drive your cars people! Life is too short to be worried about stupid crap like this.Did you guys see how you can send your regular GT to his shop now, and get it turned into a Shelby car? Way overpriced for what they will do to it.

cali, I agree 100%! couldn't stand the vinyl stripes! I'll be painting the new stripes on myself; probably a modified version of the superstripe on just the hood, unless I get a hair across my azz and wind up doing the whole car.

so stan, you were actually one of the lucky few who got the emblems before the were kudos to you! I'll buy them from you for 10% over what you paid.
