My 4.6 motor seems a little shaky??

Yesterday it was nice out so i wash my car and cleaned under the hood. I started the car to let it warm up alittle before i drove it to class. I was looking at my engine and i noticed it had a shake to it. it was just sitting there shaking. Now when i'm driving wether it be 30 or 130 i don't get any vibration at all. I may just be getting ahead of myself but i think i may need new motor mounts. I had a pontiac grand am before this car and i had to replace the motor mounts in that car too but that wasn't till like 90,000 miles were on it. Do you think i may need to replace the motor mounts or is this normal? Also when i'm sitting at a light i can feel the car vibrating.

Mine had been doing the same thing for about 2 weeks now. I have been wondering the same thing as to what is causing it. Mine is doing exactly the same as yours.

well i'm geting ready to do headers so while i'm in that area i might as well replace them if i have to. I really hope i don't though. Motor mounts aren't exactly the cheaapest thing to replace.

When you say you cleaned under the hood, did you spray it down with water? Maybe get some water on/in the COP's? Especially if they don't have a good seal. Water could get down in the plug well...might cause missing, which could cause the engine to shake some, but you'd probably hear that.

I'm thinking there's a way to check your mounts...but I don't remember exactly how to do it. Maybe someone else will chime in, or try checking a haynes manual or searching the web.

Some engine shaking is normal....the engine doesn't typically sit still....ever seen a built big block shaking around in the engine bay.

i thought it might be normal but this is my baby were talking about hear. I don't take any chances with this. Also when i clean under the hood i just use a wrag and armor all wipes to clean off the dust and make the engine look clean.

From what I understand, Mustang motor mounts tend to wear a bit faster due to the larger amount of torque than the average automobile.

You wouldn't be the first person to give me a hard time for driving an automatic.

Mine does that too from time to time. It will just be idling and the motor will shake, idle idle, shake shake, etc. (hard to describe exactly) but I know what you are talking about. I always thought it was normal. I doubt you need motor mounts but others know more than I. My 2 cents. Also as someone mentioned earlier, make sure you don't have any water in your plugs...

I wouldnt worry about it too much. Mine has done that since day one and I bought it with 20 miles on it. It now has 14k and it still does it. Its definately not the motor mounts and if it were it would do alot more then just shake....

I believe if you had broken motor mounts you'd know it for SURE. My dad's old t-bied broke a motor mount and when he gave it gas it would lift and hit the hood of the car.. You'd probably atleast hear a lot of clanking and stuff if it was broken..

Not to get off topic, but you should not use armor all or any silicone agent on your hoses. It will actually cause the materials to break down at a faster rate and crack more easily.

You would know if your mounts are broken. If you want a quick way to see for sure, start it and pop the hood. While you are sitting in the drivers' seat, watch the engine through the space between the hood & windshield while you stab at the throttle. Engines with good mounts will twitch. Engines with broken mounts will try to jump out of the bay.

I drove a 02 Z-28 vert with 4000 miles on it. Has the slight shake. These are not pedestrian V8's ya know. Not gonna be a luxo V8 that is isolated from a driver. Take our 1960's style headlight switch for example.

pretty much all modular v8's do this. i would keep a eye on it and see if a check engine light comes on.

As posted above it's normal. If the mounts crack you'll be able to tell.

If your THAT worried buy some performance ones
