About two years ago, my son-in-law gave me a call. "I know you like Mustangs and one has been abondoned at my workplace. The tow company is on the way and I bet you could get it cheap". Ah, my daughter picked a good one!

$900 later, (I picked up a '90 4cy too), I had the car on the trailer. When I got home, I looked for clues as to why the car was abondoned. It came from Texas according to the stickers on the window. It was trashed, junk everywhere, and evidence that the PO thought the car had an ignition problem. There was a box from a new rotor, cap and the wires on the car were new. Of course there were no keys. The car was full of Texas dirt and the top was trashed. Damage to the drivers fender was evident.

The car was white with a black top, 5.0, 5 speed and had 205,600 miles on it. I had to look twice to make siure it wasn't KM instead of miles. I didn't have time to deal with it so I covered it. A few weeks ago, I thought I would see if it would run. I uncovered it and started to look closer. There used to be a light bar on the car. It had 15" wheels from a standard Mustang and had H&R springs. Someone had added glass packs behind the cats and they were beat up from the car being to low. It looked like a theft recovery. On the plus side, leather seats, keyless entry, & 460 sound. My plan to sell it started to be rethought.

I had added fuel stabilizer when I parked it. I put in a new battry, and fixed the cables. Now, I had to deal with the "no keys" problem. I started to pull on the cylinder lock and it came right out. What luck! I went to my '89 parts car and pulled the cylinder lock from it. The Fox lock was different but it worked! The car started but boy did it run rough!

I pulled the dizzy cap and took a look. The armature was all bent up. I pulled it and could see it was hitting the stator. I bent it back into shape and tried again. It ran better but still bad and I could feel a missfire.

The next day, I picked up a reman dizzy and slapped it in. It ran but the miss was still there. I did the pull the wires one at a at time and traced the miss to #7. I pulled the plug, saw that it was fouled, and slapped in a spare. Down the road I went!

So far, I have added:

Nieoff ignition lock set $50
Napa door lock set $50
New tires $400
Battry $60
Oil change $20
A days worth of cleaning N/C
New front glass $215
Plugs, rotor cap $30
Reman dizzy $115

I have put 300 miles on the car. It passed CA smog, and the registration cost $52! LOL It needs a new clutch, and it still has the original struts and shocks! I just ordered a new ford clutch kit, tie rod ends and lower control arms. A Mustang buddy, from this forum, was kind enough to donate his stock springs. If I ever meet him, he will be rewarded with a ride in a '65 TT Mustang!

I had a '91 5.0/AOD vert for a while. Man, is this '94 is a much better Vert! The way the top meets the roof is a much better design. Even with a hole in the top, the '94 is half as noisy as the '90 was and the stick is so much more fun the drive. I have never owned a car with leather seats. I like them.

Anyway,

Eric

Hi Stangnet,

Almost finished with the new top. What a job but $900 is big money!

Once the car is back on the road, plans include an engine rebuild. GT40Y303 heads are already in hand as well as a cobra intake, E303 cam, 65 MM TB, 24# MAF and injectors will keep me having fun between the time I can drive the '65 Fastback, (530HP). I will post PICs soon.
