The LT1 has a tendancy to have coil issues.[it's down under the water pump, and if water or antifreeze gets on it, it can cause the spark to arc] If he hasn't had that looked at for a few miles it can rob a lot of power. If they are running right they scoot pretty good. Unfortunately, the only one I've ever raced [on many occasions]had no such issues and pulls past me by the time I get out of 2nd gear.

thanks for the support guys. i will let you guys know after we race. oh and the cams im talkin about are just the PI cams. and yes youre right. dont think of my GT as just a Lil 215hp 2V. with the head swap think of my gt as a 99-up 260hp. PLUS since 96-98 2V GTs have flat top pistons my compression after the headswap will be MUCH higher. and to the guy who ASKED what i will have done to my car here we go again....

PI Heds
PI Cams
PI INtake
75MM Throttle Body, Trick Flow Upper Plenum, Steeda T/A, Off Road H, A-T Catback, 4.10 Gears, Aluminum Driveshaft, CAI, U/D Pullies, there ya go.

also another question....HOW does the TB and the MAF on the maro make it slower????

but anyways....I HOPE I WIN!

That's not the coil. It's the Optispark which is an optical distributor. They're very accurate but were never properly vented and water tends to get in and short them out. This usually happens when the water pump fails which just happens to be located directly above the optispark (doh!). Anyway, my whole point to posting this reply is that he would probably know if his opti is bad as it will cause a quite noticeable miss in the high rpms (if the car runs at all). It's probably safe to say his opti is ok.

Sometimes without the supporting mods (ie: heads + cam) some LT1 f-bodies (excluding the 93, no maf) experienced a slight power loss when going with a 80mm TB and/or aftermarket MAF. I never heard a really good explanation for this, mostly just speculation. Although, I admit that I didn't really care that much since my 93 was speed density and didn't have a MAF *grin*.

Anyway, I think it'll be close. The LT1's can be deceptive (look at my sig, notice no headers) but since both of you have manuals it should come down to the driver. Which should make it a great race. Good luck, let us know how you do .

You are correct, I was on the phone with my G/F while I was typing that last message,[brain lapse] My brother has had to change his Optispark twice now [in only 50,000 miles?!?] in his 95', the 1st time it started missing, the 2nd time he was testing it with his G-tech Comp. and noticed his times were off, we did a voltage test at the plug wires and found that the voltage was down on 3 cylinders.Once again, new Optispark.[big bucks too] No miss, just low voltage.

LOL, I know how that is . Ick, that sucks . I was pretty lucky with mine. Original opti with 120k miles on it. Also, my water pump went out at around 105k and spilled coolant all over the opti but by some miracle didn't damage it. Yet some are so sensitive to water you could almost spit on it and short the damn thing out. Glad I don't have to deal with those anymore .

Thanks! I used to go to OSW in Orlando twice a week so I had a lot of practice. I only ran 2 12.8 runs ever and that one was an even 1.60 60'. It ran pretty consistant 12.9s though. My mph was low, it would break up in the high rpms but it seemed to only do it in 3rd gear. Never did figure it out. For some reason some of the 93's ran faster for some odd reason. Just goes to show you that when racing f-bodies you gotta watch out for those autos. That 3200 stall torque converter and shift kit dropped my 1/4 mile time .5 sec!!!

We'll see how I do with a stick, lol. Lets just say that I won't be racing anyone while people are watching anytime soon .

I would really like to see a timeslip on a LT1 with those mods running 12.8 I don't see it happening. And it isn't beacuse it's a 93.

With those mods it isn't even par with a LS1.

For what it's worth the Optispark was redesigned for 95 and was vented, I had no problems with my old 95

Ya, I'm not sure why my brother had to fix his twice, could be the driving conditions [he lives on an acerage, with gravel road] the 1st was likely b/c of antifreeze leak, but not sure about the 2nd one. I'm sure there is a reason, but I don't know what it would be

Vented or not they still failed way to much. The vented version just eliminated some of the condesation that destroys the reference disc.

I'll try to find it but I doubt I will. It was almost 3 years ago. However, I should (hopefully) be able to come up with one of the MANY 12.9 slips I had. I'll search around my dad's place today since I just happen to be home in Orlando for Thanksgiving . I know I can't prove it without the slip but I'll try to do it with mod history and reasoning. I don't blame you for being skeptical.

Stock: 13.9 (don't remember mph) with 90k miles!
K&N CAI, gutted cat + cutout, Nitto Drag Radials, minor cooling mods (manually wired fans, throttle body coolant bypass, bag 'o' ice on intake) = 13.5
Above + MAC y-pipe, Flowmaster AT Cat-back (w/ cutout), MSD 6A, 8mm spark plug wires, Electric water pump, adjusted fuel pressure + new fuel injectors (stock size) = 13.2
Above + 3200-3400 stall TC along with a fully race built 4L60 tranny = 12.8 on a cool dry night. Keep in mind this is my best 2 runs EVER and in perfect weather conditions on a well prepped track, which makes more difference than most people take into consideration. Plus, I had a TON of practice racing that car since I was at OSW 1-2 nights a week for almost a solid year. Most people don't realize how big of a difference a shift kit and high stall torque converter can make on an f-body. With 3200+ stalls people commonly see a drop of .4 to .5 sec in the 1/4 mile. Talk to an experienced f-body guy and this should add up. In the meantime, I'll try to find a timeslip. And if I do find one I can even prove it's mine since I can also post a pic of the Z with my numbers on it .

Thanks for the welcome guys. I can't wait to get the Cobra into the 12's as well .

Allen

Being someone who has a F-body and a Mustang.I would have to go with the Camaro.Bone stock in my 95 T/A I went 13.7@104.I put exhaust and CAI and went 13.2@107.Then I dipped into the motor with stronger parts and went 12.2@114 with no headwork.

Now my Saleen would be a turd without the TDC turbo kit.I mean come on 215 hp from a V-8?Thats down right sad.

My T/A now has a 383LT-4 with S-trim innercooled running 16psi of boost.Just got to put the motor back in to see what it will do.

Hmmmm, it could be close, but all things being equal....I'm afraid I'm going to have to go with the Bowtie Catfish getting the chequered flag for the win on this one too.
