$700 bucks for a cluthc install?!?! That doesn't sound right. I hope that was the price WITH a new clutch and parts, but even THAT sounds high too. Damn dude...

sounds about right to me, even without the clutch. shops around here routinely charge $1500 for clutch installs. although shop rate here goes from $80 to $150 an hour.

yeah labor is expensive depending where you live. i understand some of you in the midwest or atleast away from cites pay 50-60 a hour labor tops. but in the expensive places too live like cali, massachusetts, new york. if you live in these areas expect too pay about 100 a hour.

BTW i think your going too have a very very hard time blaming the clutch install on this. even if thats what was at fault. it would be almost impossible too prove it was their install that caused the problem.

Just so you guys know, YOU ARE GETTING *RIPPED* off. My mechanic (from ford) used to charge me side jobs out of work for $50/hr. Other mechanics around here routinely charge $65-80/hr I even know of ONE guy who charges $100, but he does rediculously good work, hes a perfectionist. I'm sorry but i would NEVER pay $100-150 ($150?!?!?!?) per hour for shop work. Geeze

FYI: I'm from northern NJ, 30 min from the city, in the richer area of Jersey. You just have to shop around. $100+ an hour is bull ****

we are 93/hr at my shop. i charge about 50/hr flate rate for side work, and as long as i got you the parts and have the recipts i warrenty the work for one year parts and labor.

right now i am limited by the fact that i live in a apartment. when i buy a house i am going too bring my box home and just do work at home ( i plan on putting a lift in my garage)

Yeah, the "side work" IS cheap. It is also at some one's convienence, warranty free, and there is no recourse if it all goes to sh't. You get what you pay for.

That being said, if I "knew a guy" who did side work, I would definitely go for it...
