I know it's not a 'stang, but I figure you guys will appreciate something a bit different.

So the car came back from the shop saturday, but the mechanics had missed that the cooling fan wasn't ****ing turning (!!!) on the way out. Thankfully everything on the engine seems fine, and we killed it before it ever got too hot.

Today I put a smaller flex fan on so it would clear the trans lines, and I got it running. It's still on open headers, but I did the 20 minute cam breakin and everything.

So why run open headers without a SUPER COOL VIDEO TO SHOW?!?!

It's down below the pics. Still need to cut a hole in the hood so I can run an air cleaner. Any advice on a good tool for hood-cutting is appreciated. <3 The only place it's going without an air cleaner is to the exhaust shop.

nice, really makes me miss my old 70. it was wimbledon white, with black and white houndstooth interior and black vinyl top. it had 351c 4v originally with automatic, air, ps and of course power discs. i really like that car. i may end up buying another one after i get the stang done, at least if i end up selling the stang anyway. i may have to sell it to put a down payment on a house.

Your post just reminded me that I have no exhaust and will almost certainly have the police out if I fire it up uncapped. One of my neighbors has taken me to court 2 months ago and I have to go back next week. Maybe I will walk around to the other people on my street and tell them it will only be :30 until I can get it on my rollback to the muffler shop where he has a SS 2.5" kit waiting. Oh well I've never been to jail before

Nice looking Cougar MunchE!! It is refreshing to see some other Fords sometimes. That thing sure sounds mean with open headers.

I saw Chip Foose cut a hole in a hood the other night with an air tool with a thin abrasive disk. This was on a car with a show car quality paint job and he made it look perfect. So anything that will turn a thin cutoff disk fast enough should do fine. Grinder, die grinder, Dremel would probably take too long but would work eventually.

Take it to the strip and let us know how it runs!

I saw that too on Overhaulin'! lol I think I am going to try a cutoff wheel and/or Dremel combo.

Plan is to break it in as quickly as possible so I can get some times out of it. They haven't announced the schedule for the Fontana Speedway this year though.

I went out tonight and cut the hole in the hood. I used a dremel, only took about 8 cutting discs, and I got 20 for $12. Beats the hell out of spending a ton on a nibbler or something.

I'll get some pics of it tomorrow, my camera's batteries are dead. Tomorrow it also goes to the exhaust shop and new videos await!

Are you going to throw a scoop on it? Or just have the air filter sticking out?

I have the eliminator style scoop on it now, I just cut the hole to make it functional. Here's how it looked when I dropped it at the exhaust shop. I want to get a K&N X-Stream lid and a raised base to put it up into the airflow a bit more. I am thinking of trying to get a base that's wider, perhaps like on a factory air cleaner, and then using some weatherstripping or something to make a seal against the hood, to get a functional ram air effect. The hard part is trying to find the base.

why not put a cougar eliminator scoop on there!!!! that would look sweet and be functional

That sounds sweet. I'm not too far from Norco, up here in Fontana. I wouldnt mind heading down to a car meet out that way. Seems to run pretty good so far. Today was the first test drive. I am having some cooling issues and I need to dial in a tune, it seems to have some issues off idle. But it was running really strong up around 3500 before I laid off of it. It's all brand new so still breaking it in.

Last night I cut the scoop out with a dremel. Here's my handiwork in detail:

And then I got the exhaust put on this afternoon. I just had them throw on the exhaust from the old car. Because after all of the engine parts, I'm broke. So that's why it looks rusty and kind of lame.
