My car is to slow :-( need some advice

Ok so prior to my 1995 Vert i had a 2001 Gt so i was used to the pwer that car had.. I was paying 1000.00 a month between gas, payment, and insurance. so the car happily was sold to an ebay buyer..

Now.. the 95 that I have has BBk headers, X pipe, Full Slp loudmouth exhaust

I would have thought just the exhaust mods would make the car at least feel snotty.. But they do not... It literaly sounds like a Nascar when im coming up the road, which i like because everyone compliments the sound and says it dosnt sound like the usualy mustang..

So what do i do.. I really dont have deep pockets so im thiking of the little things i can do to help.. Cold Air intake, 373 Gears and have the timing bumped..

Will those mods do anything for me? I dont want a car thats going to do 0-mach 1 in 5 seconds.. but i do want to have a car that I can at least step on it and take off. I raced my friend in his 98 lincoln mark viii and needless to say he walked away from me like nothing.. i thought yeah he has the 32valve motor ut the car is boat. i should at least be able to keep up with him?? no luck....

Id like some advice...

All three are good mods but the 3.73 is the best of all.
Porting the stock heads and lower intake also yields excellent results as I've just found out in the last couple of days. If you have the time and you're handy with a Dremel, buy the Standard Abrasives porting kit and get to work.
 
those mark8s might have some weight on you but they are no slouches for their era ... i personally wouldn't expect to keep up with them with a 15sec mustang.....the gears though should put you right with him tho. I think your money might be best spent on gears and possibly an intake manifold to help take advantage of the upper rpms that gears would keep you at. I would look for a used cobra intake or get the typhoon one for your cheapest option. and while its not on the car you could have it ported.

And if you do get pulleys like others are mentioning id take a look at the ASP pully's, most people here on the forums review them pretty well as ive heard some people say with other pulleys the only difference theyve noticed is a dimming of the headlights
 
Like everyone is saying go ahead and put gears in first. If your car has some miles on it go ahead and buy a diff rebuild kit and have it rebuilt while your at it. That is the best money I've spent so far! If you haven't done so already go ahead and bump the timing to 14degrees with the spout connector out and do a full tune up and clean the mass air meter. After you've got gears and the tune up done I would look into finding a explorer intake and heads. Most of the small bolt ons such as CAI, UDP, throttle body, and MAF sensor don't do alot for making more power. Sure they will help a little bit but the heads and intake will make the biggest gains for the money. The intake is the biggest restriction followed closely by the heads. The explorer stuff is pretty cheap and much better than the stock mustang stuff.
 
Don't by the CAI. It wont get you more power. It is a loser mod for our cars. Headers will do nothing until you get better heads. The gears are the biggest band for the buck. The only mods worth while in my o after that are pulleys (I felt absolutely nothing but others say they work), off road h-pipe, nitrous or H/C/I. Anything else and you are gonna be disappointed.

Yes and my throttlebody is good quality and will make a difference in driveability and some rwhp.
 
gears definately
contact tmoss about a ported lower intake ... that is the biggest air flow restriction. he does great work and his prices are very reasonable. it will really wake up the upper rpm range
or explorer heads and intake if you can find them
pulleys or catback exhaust would probably be the next
 
I home ported my stock heads and lower intake last week. I was expecting the torque gains to be at higher rpm but it turned out even better than that; I also gained torque at the bottom end and particularly in the midrange. The difference is very noticeable and I gained a good 1/2sec to the 1/4 mile. They key was that I didn't increase the intake runner nor the head port diameters. I just removed any obstructions I could to allow the airflow a straighter path, increasing airflow velocity and torque.
A CAI is not a loser mod as long as it's shielded from underhood heat so that it works as intended; breathing in colder air!
