my car sucks!

Bro,

you have a decent combo. I have seen plenty of bolt on cars running mid 13's at aroung 103's. You cant expect to run with faster cars without motor work, just really doesnt work that way. Hell a CTS-V is a decent race for a heads and cam car.... I am sure u could get a good tune, that would probably unlock a few extra HP for less than 100 bucks. Just my .02 cents

you guys are all saying he should get heads.. why?
do you think he would benifit more from:

stock cam and new heads
or
stock heads with bigger cam?

i mean if you couldnt have both, i would go with a new cam. cheap part and verry noticable if you ask me. my 87 with cobra intake and mild cam smokes my stock block 88.
also i think 410s are a better gear for street type races since alot of times they are not a full 1/4 mile run. you can pull away from those wrx's and be declared the winner before he gets into the 50-100mph range.
after 1/8 mile they will reel you in however. someone will disagree with me im sure

Heads. Doing just a cam will shift the powerband where the heads can't breath at all.

OK, but let me give an example of two cars my buddy owns. both have basically identical mods but the one with a mild cam ran 13.8 and the other with mild heads (gt40) was still mid 14's
and the cost of the gt40 irons used is gonna run ya upward of $500
so bang for your buck... ? i still vote for cam

the simple fact is each can help on its own, but there is gonna be a cut off point where one is holding back the other. i dunno

how hard is it to shift from 3rd to 4th? come on. driving is not the prob. but i want more power than heads so there is addition from master power that should be here in a couple weeks. woo hoo

What good is all that power when you can't apply it to the ground. Add some good rear control arms and sticky tires. Next, aluminum flywheel and driveshaft.
There are more gears then just 3rd to 4th. So, if all your looking for is power to pull away from them at those speeds, add a 9psi blower.

work on the tune or have someone that knows how to tune work on it for you. You should be running around 14* timing. Oh, and don't waste your money on a cam now unless your combo is finished. You'd have to get another if you ever did swap your heads, go to a blower, nitrous, turbo etc... Just do everything else and then get a cam for the entire combo. Heads will pick up more power for you than a cam will, anyway.

wrx, cts-v, and the slower cars ive raced ive maby put a couple cars on them. it just seems like it should be faster than it is.
WRX STI = 300hp awd
CTS-V = 400hp
average family sedan V6 today has 260+hp
Cars are always getting faster. They didn't stop making cars faster when yours came out in 1991.

Have you taken it to the dragstrip at all? That way you can actually tell how "fast" it is.
