my setup is

forged pistons , 9:1
twisted wedge heads,
stage 1 cam
street heat intake
76mm mass air
24 pound injectors
cold air intake
full exhaust, pulleys, yada yada

im not running cats and my car smells soooo rich, especially when its cold and if i turn down the fuel pressure the car becomes a dog but if i turn it up the performance increases and i get even worse gas mileage and the gas mileage gets worse and you can just feel that is running rich but it will pull a lot better in 3rd., haha. either way my i am getting terrible gas mileage, around 11mpg and im not a lead foot either. i am running 40 pounds vac off. anyone have any ideas on what i should do? my vac at idle is about 13 inches of merc btw, is that normal with a stage 1 cam? all my vac operated stuff like my brakes are working great.

thanks for any help,

Drew

i have a a9l too.

it is expected around 12MPG with a HCI setup...I would think you would need 30# injectors with that setup...,however, 24# would be O.K at higher fuel pressure...BUT since you have a C&L MAF turning up the fuel pressure above the stock 38psi could screw up the A/F ratio the MAF was calibrated to...C&L uses the sample tubes which are not as precise as a calibrated MAF...where is your timing? You can run up to 18* safely...what gears do you have? I can't remember but isn't the a9l the computer from 94-95 5.0's? If so those computers don't like a cam with an LSA of 112...114 should be a cam for the 94-95's

nah the a9l is for the 89-93 cars and i think the 94 and 95 5 liters had a dif comp, correct me if im wrong though. ihave the 24 pound sample tube for my c @l too and get this about my timing..., it's at 23 degress advance, i swear to god! i thought maybe the dampener was messed up and the seal had broken and it was cockeyed or something but nope, its at over 20 degress advance and i dont ping at all! and i run 89 octane too. i have 308 gears as of now but 373 should be in next week. yeah my cam is pretty choppy in the morning but when it gets warmed up its fine.

check and replace o2 sensors, and or pull the egr valve and clean it out put it back on, check plug wires and plugs for bad. Computer may be over compensating for something causing it to read lean condition..like a bad injector..and try to dump extra fuel into the mix to richen things up. Just some thoughts hope they help

yeah i want to check my 02's but i dont have a scan tool on hand, and i thought that reading the range and crossover times is the only real good way to read an 02. well if my egr was plugged id be running about 500 degrees hotter in the combustion chamber and then wouldnt i be more likely to ping? i was thinking maybe a vac leak which would be unmetered air and the o2's would read it as too lean and then richen it up to compensate. i am running 13 inch merc at idle, is that too low for this cam?
