So my car starts but wont stay running unless i'm on the gas, if I tap the gas the throttle response isn't there it just kinda hesitates. When it is running the motor has a popping noise and I can't tell what it is? Itsd a 306 with forged pistons and the trick flow top-end kit ,anyone got any ideas?

Do you have all your plug wires pluged into the correct spots?

Sounds like you need to ensure you are using the H.O. firing order.

Check for codes first. Sounds like it is lean because of the popping in the intake. Clean the IAC and the MAF. Check the voltage on your TPS. But first check for codes.

I just changed the plugs at 1200 miles and they looked like it was rich, could it all of a sudden go lean? Thanks for the help

Yea they can. I am no expert but I have seen an MAF go bad and they can go lean. Bad o2 sensors can cause it too.
Did you pull any codes yet?

Look up pulling codes with a paper clip from Jricher(might not be correct) or you can go to an Autozone or a Schucks/Kragan auto and use a scan tool.

JRICHKER is the name. He can tell you how to pull codes with a paper clip. The guy knows his stuff, Maybe HISSIN50 can chime in as well.

First thing is to get the codes checked. Is the check engine light on? May not be on but can have memory codes.

The light is on,always has been. When the motor was put in I was told it would always be on,

Somebody is full of S**t. Anyway it should never be on. Do a search for pulling codes and you will find it. That is the very first thing. Or like I said go to an auto parts store that will pull codes and get a printout. If you lived by me I would gladly let you use mine but I don't think a damn person lives near me on Stangnet. I am so alone.

Don't worry - there are a few Palouse folks on here.

If one is missing emissions equipment, that could lead to a CEL which is often or always on. I do think that Whtpny's advice is very sound. Pull the codes and see what all is stored in the KAM.

Otherwise, there are way too many possibilities to make guesses (without more info).

Good luck.
