my dilemma: m2300k or piece together 99-04 non cobra pbr stuff

nrc says the 94-95 rear calipers and softlines will bolt right up to the fox, but mm told me i had to get the center section and so on on the axle. theres no fitting or anything on the rear like there is in the front right? this is the one thing that really has me dumbfounded and everyone keeps saying its oh so simple. the nrc guy told me i had to cut and flare a line, but what do i put back on the line? where do i get that? i understand everything, but the rear hose setup, how im gonna get mm stainless ones for my setup and what the real difference is between the 94-98 rear caliper and the 99-04 rear caliper.

theres no way its as simple as just buying a 94 -95 rear caliper and soft line and just bolting it on there.

It is simple, you are just misunderstanding it slightly.

94-04 REAR calipers are all the same. GT, V6, Mach, Cobra...the part with the piston that squeezes the pad is the same. Just the brackets ad rotor are different.

You want 94-95 rear softlines. If you want to buy MM stainless lines, get the 3-peice kit for the 94-95 on their site. Comes with the two caliper softlines and the center line. Up front, buy two front SS hoses for a FOX. That way no adapters needed and will still work with any caliper.

Later tonight i'll post up pics of how i did it. I'm at work right now

the fox lines didnt work with my 95 calipers though. and the 94-04 rear calipers non cobra, cant be the same, sure people say they are but when i look them up at advance and rock auto, there are different part numbers for 94-98 and then 99-04. they didnt change the part numbers just because they felt like it. it doesent matter i know but id like to know the difference. i dont mind using the adapter in the front so i was plannin on just using 99-04 front stainless lines.

and if i wanted to keep the brakes front and rear a 99-04 style, meaning rear 99-04 calipers, would the 94-95 lines just work fine and dandy, cause everyone keeps telling me theres no difference.

The stock Fox lines won't fit, but aftermarket SS lines for a Fox should. Reason being the heads to most of the good aftermarker braided line kits are all narrow and rounded. They are somewhat universal. The difference is where the line connects to the body. If you get them for a Fox, no adapter needed. If you get them for an SN95...you need a weatherhead 7828.

The rear calipers for the GT and V6 are the same 94-04. If they are not the same, they are interchangable. All the same 38mm piston, hard mount points and banjo bolts. The only difference is between the cobra/mach/bullitt caliper and the gt.v6 caliper. The u--shaped bracjet that holds the pads is different.

This is it...the only difference. No idea why advance lists two calipers for the non-Cobra.

As for which softlines to use. Here's the kit i bought from MM

MMBK12R is only the caliper soft hoses
MMBK2P is the kit that included the center axle hose. This is what I have

You will also need TWO Weatherhead 7818 adapters to adapy the drum brake hard line to the brackets. No need to cut and flare, just carefully bend.

And here they are installed on my car.

You can see where they attach. You need to drill holes on one side to mount the bracket. One side is already pre-drilled. So mount that one up first, then copy it on the other side. Then carefully bend the lines back, and make sure the chassis bumper DO NOT HIT the lines or brackets when the axle hits a bump. I had to bend mine forward slightly, but clears fine

drill holes to mount what bracket? the nrc bracket? i dont mind cutting and flaring the line, the nrc kit comes with what you put on there when you reflare it. how are the cobra rear calipers not different from the non cobra rear calipers, the rotors are vented on the cobras? where can i find that weather head adapter? can i cross that number? i thought it was something odd with the advance auto system but on the rock auto site there different numbers too. oh well i just figured someone would have the 2 next to each other and find the difference.

I BELIEVE the pads on Cobra calipers are thinner to accommodate for the thicker vented Cobra rotor. This may be why the part numbers are different, if the calipers you're talking about come with pads.

well i ordered the cobra caliper kit on buy ford racing. figured i might as well do it right, thats my solid thing that will make me. now i gotta track down mounting brackets and such for the calipers and rotors for the front, and i just ordered the nrc kit with the ebrake cables and brackets.

so later on i need to track down mouting brackets for the front for the caliper, and get stainless lines, and 13 inch rotors, and then find mounting brackets for the rear, and get rotors for that. the nrc kit has the think i need to put on the line when i flare it, and then the ss hose kit will have lines for me and the parking brake cables.

any ideas where ic an find mounting brackets?

I believe the calipers from BFR come loaded, so you shouldn't need to buy brackets.

shandolin crane informed me of that, so it looks like im down to getting rotors and the booster/mc plus ss lines, mc conversion , prop. valve, and the eliminator kit from mm.

would you recommend splurging for powerslot rotors? do they last pretty well? or just stick with parts stores blanks?

Alright, wise guy. I was talking strictly brake parts- calipers, rotors, booster, MC, lines, etc. The spindles I got from a member on here, and obviously they're used. :nice:

Sorry, I wasnt trying to be a wise guy. I seriously tried to piece together the brake kit with all "New Parts" and got about half way there and had already spent over a grand, so I ended up selling what I had and spent the $1700 on the Kit and got everything new.

No, I see where you're coming from. If you piece the kit together basically using the same stuff as the Ford kit, I think you come out a little under (1000-1500), but that is with nicer axles (Yukon or Moser), and maintaining the correct rear Fox track. You can splurge on nicer-than-stock rotors and hoses and stuff and come out about the same as what the kit costs. I'll have to dig up my price list that I used to make my decision.

new meaning from ford or just not used? after im done only junkyard thing ill have on mine is the axles and spindles/hubs i think. i ordered new calipers, pads, gonna have new rotors, brackets, ect.

"Just not used." Not all the stuff I'm using for my brake swap is Ford, but you could go that route if you wanted to. I'm not afraid to mix brands. :p
