the other day my friend sat on my hood and messed it up pretty badly, he said he would pay to get the hood fixed. I went to a couple places to get an estimate and they were all 700-900 for a new and painted installed hood. The OEM's and the other hoods are around the same price, so which hood would u get? I have a black coupe and wouldnt mind getting the carbon fiber hood and just leaving it the way it is

Carbon Fiber hoods are a waste of time seeing how our hoods are fiberglass to begin with.

well, i've been gone a few months, and think i may just bail out completely. there is more rice on this board than ever. Carbon fiber hoods, arguments about who is more or less rice. arguments about what is faster a cavalier or a celica......who gives a crap. this is a freakin' mustang website, stop talkin' stupid crap. Have your buddy replace your hood with a MUSTANG HOOD. something that came OEM there are several hoods available. freakin' carbon fiber, this is ridiculous.

"im gonna make my car Enzo fast with some carbon fiber and no other mods! Even better yet, i'll make it Civic Si fast!!" (this comment is not directed at adamakafel, as he made no such statement)

PMS? Remember to each his own.

$700 for a new hood??? that seems pretty expensive, thats like $200 just to paint it and put it on. Seems like a lot to me. And i like all the hoods that BABstangV6 mentioned.

30AnnivStang I dont know what ur problem is but what faststang said to each his own, i was posting this in order to get some sort of price range and a different looking hood. I thought carbon fiber would be cool since its lighter, my hood is sheet metal not fiberglass...so i will save more than 4-5 lbs. Carbon Fiber doesnt make you "rice" and I have no such rice on my car...so if someone could post some websites for good places to buy hoods and how much do u think it will to get it painted?

I HAVE A FRIGGIN' CARBON FIBER HOOD!!!!! YES!!!!!! I LOVE IT, quit cryin. I wasn't tryin to "save weight" or anything like that. I have a black and red scheme goin on my car so I figured it would be a cool accent. Not to mention though, it did add 20hp LOL!

TO EACH HIS OWN!!!!!!

I tried to attach a pic of my car, not sure if it worked or not.

Actually all mustangs since 1994 came with fiberglass hoods with steel reinforcements. So, in essence, you would save a "little" weight by going to carbon fiber, but it would look ricey on a stang, if you leave it unpainted.

My understanding with carbon fiber is that you leave it unpainted so everyone can see you're not color coordinated and wasted an extra 300 to spend on carbon fiber.

When my stock hood got broken, I was looking.......stock hood $519, Cervini's hood $399. You can get cheaper hoods, but cervini's quality is unmatchable and it's ready to paint. When I got it painted, I got charged another 200.........

take it as you will, but a carbon fiber hood is essentially a waste of money unless you just have money burning your pocket, kinda like neons

I'd get a cervini or saleen, but the saleen is a bit more pricey.

price estimates to get it painted can only be done by going to your local shops. I went to one of the pricier places around me because it was the only one supported by my insurance company. How hard is it to call a body shop in your area and ask them??????

na its not hard callin a body shop, but I dont know which ones are reputable...whats good paint...how many layers...how long will it last. I would rather hear from someone first hand before I ask shops because they all try and feed you the same lines "mine is quality work, the best in south florida" so maybe if someone had gotten work done in South Florida I would like to hear.

many times you'll be able to talk to em, and ask to see some stuff they are working on or have worked on, if they are real stand up people they will gladly show you a few cars they have on hand, and maybe even contact a couple people to bring stuff by to show off. Go to Auto Parts stores, AutoZone, Napa, stuff like that, talk to the dudes behind the counter 9 times out of 10 they'll know who does good work and where. What kind of damage did this "friend" do to your hood when he sat on it? And you claim to have a metal hood. What brand is it? or do you know, he only company I know of who made metal replacements was Goodmark. As 98CobraClone said factory hoods are Glass, evidenced by the hair sticking out when that dude in the Suburban pulled out in front of him.
