after i changed my oil earlier today i was just giving everything a look see and noticed coolant slightly leaking from the intake (passenger side near the top). anyways, not much coolant really comes out, more like a mist of coolant and only when the engine is revved up. so am i'm okay to drive this and just keeping putting in coolant whenever i need to, this is my daily driver. also, i plan on doing a pi intake swap so i was thinking this would be a good excuse to do so. having said that, i know the silent recall on the intake is over for me since my car is a '98, but when i got the car in 2002 i got an extended powertrain warranty that takes me well beyong 100,000 miles. would it be possible to get ford to replace my intake? and if so could i get them to replace it with a pi intake or would it have to be the stock one?

It's a tough call as to how long you would be able to go without it getting worse, it could go for years or maybe just days.
Also not sure about warrenty covering it, it would be a good idea to call and check into it, sometimes warrenty only covers parts and you would have to pay the labour costs.
And lastly, it would depend on the dealer as to wether they would put on a PI intake for you, if they said yes, they'd likely charge you a little extra, but I doubt that they would warrenty the work :(

well it looks like i'm going to just do the pi intake swap and if i get my money back then great and if i don't, at least i got some hp out of it lol. anyways, i see pi intake kits going for $650+, but the pi intake alone for less than $200. since i'm going to s/c in the future and won't swap the heads should i get the pi intake ported?

You can have my npi intake with alumn crossover for $50 your like 45 mins away.
Same here. Got a NPI intake (but it's all composite) for sale for 25$+shipping and i've also got a PI intake (also all composite) for sale for $50+shipping. PM me if interested.

The terms of the settle include:

• Ford will reimburse customers with receipts for the intake repair.
• Ford will pay $735.00 to those without receipts, provided that they can verify with a dealership that a repair was made.
• Ford will extend the warranty coverage for customers whose intakes have not failed.

I wonder if anyone tried to get their reimbursment now.

thanks for all the info guys, i guess my wallet will be $300 lighter. doesn't matter this swap was going to happen sooner or later, just was hoping it was later when the funds were better. and i've read ford has one last hearing at the end of september and then it will go through the dmv or something to contact whoever is eligible for the recall, reimbursement, or whatever. one last thing, can someone direct me to some good links or pictures on using the rtv and pi gaskets to make this whole thing work, just to see exactly where the ports are off so that they need the rtv.

This is the EXACT kit i ordered. the guy is great, answered all of my questions and shipped it super fast. The kit includes absolutely everything needed or even some things you dont NEED but makes the swap easier. He also includes extremely detailed drawing and instructions that show you exactly where to place the RTV and how much and what type of rtv to use. I suggest you get it from him, i did and followed his instructions and ive had absolutely no problems for 3 months with hard driving and track days. Another reason i ordered his kit is that it is already drilled and tapped at the crossover for the second coolant temp sensor, so no fabrication or miving sensors on your part...it really is a bolt-on type of kit.

If you need anymore help while you are doing it let me know or search back my posts about this. I asked a lot of questions and got a lot of help for fellow stangnetters, so ill be glad to return the favor.

Just installed my intake from Custom Mustangs of South Florida: no problems, great service.
As a side note, you can patch the intake with plastic radiator repair to stop the leak. I did this so I could drive mine to the garage instead of towing and it held fine and didn't leak a drop. I had a crack from the thermo. housing to the bottom of the upper part of the intake.

I know this is a newbie question but what kind of intake do i have on my 2002 gt?, is it the one that is cracking or did ford put in a different one? And is it worth the money to swap it out to an aftermarket one?
