My new 351w Is it worthy ?

Thanx Rhyno. I called Edelbrock as well, and the guy I spoke with was very informed. He basically said off the record, that a Air gap will be tight..reeaaal tight, and that a RPM is just as good. Further off the record, he said a stealth is also not a bad way to go, and it will fit.

So I found RPM 351 new for a very good price, and I will get it. Now the carb search is on. What are the Demon carbs called ? Speed Demon ? I might just stick with Edelbrock and get a Thunder 650, or a Performer 750..

Stay away form Demons...their QC has really gone to pot recently and Summit won't sell them because of that.

Thanks for the tech ryno...I'll stick with the forged units and maybe add a 100hp shot :D

Forged pistons can take more abuse, they tend NOT to explode into shrapnel when they fail.....UNLIKE cast or hyper pistons which tend to break apart and ruin everything when they fail.

Mahle, SRP, Probe all can be had for under $500.00 per set complete.

How much power did you make with your setup ? I may try a stroke kit, but I was going to see how this went. This is a street/strip car btw..def more steet than strip. I just do not want no dam honda's screwing with me :nono:

I never got it dyno-ed. I am telling you, I'm not impressed. I had 6lbs of boost on a RV cammed stock 289 with cast iron heads, stealth intake and the car had more balls then. I'm not feeling it with this 351. I do plan to eventually use a 750 I built for blow-through, but I'm still gonna go with the 650 with the stage 1 cam. I'm just a little conserative. I say tune up a 650 rather than tune down a 750. With my car now, I still get messed with by hondas and camaros on the highway, but I ignore them. Save it for the track. Had a guy come up next to me in a Del Sol last summer and pop his blow off valve to let me know he has turbo. How nice would that have been to sound off my BOV on a boosted 408w right after that? I know how you feel. This summer, some Del Sol driver is gonna feel small.

Well I picked up a RPM Preformer, and it had some port work done to it. Nice looking piece actually, its actually the Ford Motorsport one, so looks cool with the Ford Blue-oval, and Eledbrock name on it. Carb wise, I am looking to get a Thunder 650 from Eledbrock, or a Holley. I hear that Holley's are hard to tune though...

Well with the RPM I should have the bottleneck you guys spoke on solved, and I will probaly just go to my speed shop and order a new Thunder from them. But I can wait on it, its not a must have atm. Heh now I just need to wait for my block to show up..man this is starting to get good. I want to put this puupy and in, and see what I can do. I will takes some pics to catalog the whole project, to keep a history of sorts.

Hmm now what do I do with all my old parts.. ? Ebay I guess, but man I hate dealing with that..

After I get this done, I will address my old steering pump. maybe a flaming river or a randall's rack...

a flaming river rack...
Do yourself a favor and don't even think about it. It's the biggest and most expensive POS I've seen in a while. It didn't fit the first time, and they keep saying they revised it so it fits. Last time someone tried, it still didn't. The boy who cried wolf!

Hmm well thats good to know....guess its a randall then when I get ready to do that project.

With the forged pistons, things will also run slightly cooler as the aluminum molecules are tighter together resulting in better heat transfer.

At least that is what I was always told!
