Hey guys and Gals,
I just got done putting together my 418 Long block last night...Heres the Combo:
351 (30 over)
DSS Stroker kit.
AFR 225cc Head (intake Gasket matched)
Edelbrock Preformer RPM upper and Lower (lower gasket matched)

I have 30lbs injectors, a 75 mm TB, 80mm MAF, and a F303 Cam.

1..... Are 30lbs injectors too small?
2..... This the TB and MAF too small or too big?
3..... How will the F303 be in this combo?
This my daily driver, I *MIGHT* run a 75 shot in a year or so. But liek I said what do ya think? Stout combo? Drivablity is the key for me... John

Since your car is probably driveable right now, Id say that you should save up and get a custom cam right off the bat. A TB and MAF can always be swapped out with minimal dissasembly.

Take into account what you want the car to be doing next year and buy your parts accordingly. Id get a nitrous specific cam since you plan on spraying anyways.

Just my 2 cents, And I think you will be fine with 30lb injectors.

Injectors are small, minimum of 36 pounders. Could get by on those for awhile. I would have put 42's in. The intake is kinda small too. Edelbrock recommends a Victor for 351 and up applications. That cam isn't the best either. I doubt it will run right. It will need a tuning device or chip.

I figured I would need a tune any how... I slapped it together with the extra part I have from the last 11 years worth of stang I have owned... The only thing I bought new is the DSS kit.

Those are HUGE heads for an RPM intake and F cam. AFR told me the 225's are only for Big blocks and stroker small blocks running MAJOR power adders on the strip only.

I had thought about going with a 396 stroker as a daily driver with 205 heads, AFR said those might be too much with a custom cam and Victor intake.

All this information is coming directly from the two AFR engineers I talked to this year at the World Ford Challenge.

My friend has a 408ci motor with a FTI custom cam, Victor intake and AFR-205's with slight exhaust work. He makes over 500rwhp without the best tune, and plans on running mid 10's in a Fox body.

The friend you're talking about is Sebastian, he has a new combo making 525rwhp with a 331 and a Procharger with only 8psi. He'll be at GLD this SAturday if you can make it. The friend I was talking about in this thread is from the Southern Wisconsin area.

The heads should work, but that intake is way too restrictive. Remember, if you put 302 parts on a 351, or 418 in this case, you're gonna get 302 power. Here's what Jesse had for his, and Im building it the same except Im probably going with the Vic 5.8 instead of the Trick Flow.

69 Block 418W, AFR 225 heads, FTI hyd cam, Trickflow Box Intake, Kooks 1-7/8 longtubes, Kooks 3in X pipe, 42#'ers, 80mm Pro M

Yeah, I would say that intake is too small. I wouldn't run that intake on anything bigger than 351 cid. On a 418, I would think you would run out of flow by or before 5000 rpm. Those heads power production will occur in a totally different rev range than the intake. The cam is probably on the small side for a 418. I would also recommend 36# injectors, at least.

On the dyno I would guess 375hp @4800 and 410 tq @3200.

just a quick question whats your compression? My personal opinion is any car above 10:1 or 10:5:1 should'nt be a daily unless you plan on running 100 octane. If your below 10 then these guys are steering you in the right direction with your cam and especially the heads. AFR 185's are and excellent choice, a nitrous cam or custom and i'd go with 42lb. injectors. Just my opinion.

AFR 225 heads are perfect for a 418.

My old combo is in the sig, and the power #'s are there as well. There was another 15-20rwhp left in that combo - With more tuning and a bigger (4") CAI.

Id plan on getting a daily driver now. That engine will be just soo damn loud. You will need atleast 4 mufflers to keep the thing quiet. My car was so loud it gave me a headache after driving it for 10 minutes, but it was damn fast Also getting the engine to idle is alot of work, well in my case it was. The tuner spent a good 2-3 hours just F'ing with the idle, and i was still supposed to go back to mess with it some more. Never got that chance though

My old settup was 10.2-1. Was tuned on 93 octane no problem.

My compression is 10.3:1 with the AFR's. I am goign to be contacting ED today to get a cam done for the car. It looks like I am going to be buying a Victor and some 42lbs..

I am hoping to have the motor in next weekend...I hope ED can cut a cam quick!
My headers are from Kooks, with a 3" DR Gas X pipe w/cats, and a Bolra Cat back on that combo...
Good By Flowmaster ( Hell the Delta Flows sound like **** IMO).
