My new project!! 86 LX coupe

86 former 4 banger now with a 302 (out of what I'm not sure). Its got AOD (going to 5 speed sometime) headers, and flows. The an unknown owner did the swap, he did some strang stuff like running the belt the wrong way and jerry rigged some stuff,,, but thats the fun of a new project right?
It needs work but is just what I was looking for. Gonna make a auto-crosser out of it and gut the interior.
I've owned 6 Stangs and I've always wanted a coupe, but a 4 eye coupe is great!!
If anyone has any ideas what car this motor might have come out of, chime in please! I think its a roller.

See if there are any casting numbers on the block and someone should be able to decode it. if you pull the lower intake and see XXX it means its a stock 302 block IF it has YYY it has a higher nickel content and is a bit stronger.

oh and that reverse routed acc. belt could be because he used a reverse rotation water pump on it, something to look into.

The motor could be out of and early Mustang like a 83-85, but it has all the 87-93 alternator bracket, AC compressor and brackets and power steering pump stuff. The only thing that looks old is that belt tensioner. Hopefully it is not a 4.2L from an 81....because they look alike. Nice project though. That should be fun.

Is there any way to tell a reverse rotation water pump without removing it? I guess I could pop the radiator cap when the engine is running to see if the coolant is flowing. If not the belt is backwards and the pump is pushing water back into the block??

I could be mistaken, but as I remember it, the standard-rotation pump was cast iron and the reverse rotation pumps were aluminum. Try sticking a magnet to it to see.

It's an old-school standard-rotation, then. The belt might actually be routed correctly, then ... weirdly, but correctly.

Those hoses, on the other hand ... yeesh.

KINKY: It's great with women, but bad with hoses.

the numbers are probably down by the starter..just above the oil pan somewhere..and do those mufflers say V force on the bottom? how do you like em?? i am running V force(they look exactly like yours, rusty welds and all) and love the sound/drone, but will be switching em for 2 chamber flowmater catback and H pipe, nice car!!(i have an 86GT parts car, so if you need anything hit me up)
