ok guys, I have a 89 lx now that I put my 302 10.1:1 comp gt40x heads cnc ported, typhoon intake, no a/c or smog, or p/s, stock cam straight up, all the bolt ons..

first impressions: didnt like, wasnt that great feeling to me.

put the motor in another car, drove it yesterday and it feels a little better, I put some 93 in it and upped the timing to 15 from 10 and it feels pretty good now, alot faster than I would have thought!!!

tonight I put on the exhaust and my o2's and it continually gets faster.

on the way home my buddy in a tuned ls1 craparo, headers, lid all the bolt ons, except gears. he pulls up beside me at a 40 roll, we leave I spun for about 10 feet and nailed 3rd and put about half a car on him, then we both let out, I was amazed to say the least

but I had my doubts and it actually proved me wrong, just goes to show you you can go fast with a stocker.. Im gonna see what it does -4 here soon and will post up some times, but as is, one o2 is bad and one bank is very rich and it still is ridin..

so my thoughts: it actually works, this is considerably faster than my gtp/b cam/ explorer/ bolt ons combo, gets better mileage as well.

just thought I would throw that out for you guys!!!

Try some 7:1 ratio roller rockers. That'll help it even more!

7:1 ratio? i think you mean 1.7:1 ratio rockers. or more commonly referred to as just 1.7's.

Yeah, the stock cam/1.7 ratio rocker combination is surprisingly good and on a street engine that's limited to 6200rpm, most aftermarket cams will only yield a 10-15hp gain at best.

We have a few stock cammed motors here... Low and mid 12s for them, good gas mileage, smooth idle, pull to 5500-6000 RPM if needed. No complaints from my family.

Contrary to popular belief, the stock cam really isn't that bad.

and this is one reason why i am considering staying stock cam and just a ported GT40P combo. i would like to keep decent MPG and the cops in my town hate me so i dont need something loping to attract yet more attenion.

I love my ed curtis cam.. did some wonders for me and not much more on the pocket book. If there was one place you DONT want to skimp it is the cam.. although this is good info on the stocker!
