alright i'll tell you what happened today at the dealership I went to look at the 5.0 mustang.

1. there were 3 cars lined up, none of which had the options i wanted. all of them had to be ordered from another city.

2. the 4.6L GT was selling for $3500 less than the 2010, which makes it a tough sell but the incompetent sales man didn't see it that way. he wasn't even familiar with electronic steering, brembo brakes or the 19" premium wheels package. basically they throw them out there to sell Lincolns and Fords with little insight into the actual product.

3. the mustang felt pretty cheap. all the panels and trims reminded me of foam and patio furniture. nothing like coming from a g37, or even a mk5 jetta.

I test drove the automatic 2011 V6 because he couldn't show me the 5.0 because some tech had the keys. So i was like "fine" and test drove it. the car is remarkably big but felt heavy and the exhaust was raspy. Either way the car is okay for $23,000. The cheap china spec tranny might have killed it for me.

Lets talk numbers. He quoted me at MSRP - $1000 ford cash back.

I said "this isn't a deal, it's MSRP" he gave me more bs like "tell me what you want to pay and i'll FIGHT my manager for you"

I said "look, i'll pay what you want, and you give me $12,500 for my jetta." knowing my jetta is $10,000 black book value and I can save $12,500 in sales tax (effectively making it $13,500.. more than I can get privately) he said after talking to the manager he would do it. So I figured if I didn't have a trade in, I could have easily lowered my offer to $2500 off MSRP since I believe they are giving me $2500 more for my trade in if I pay MSRP. Trade low buy low, trade high buy high.

Then I said i want it in grabber blue. So they had to order it. I asked how many miles would be on my car and he said "maybe 10 mi maybe 100" then I got into a huge argument with the managers about that, because no new car should have 100 miles on it unless it was a demo, which I am not okay with.

so now I have to bring my jetta in for appraisal. I'm sure the 5.0 is much faster, but I can't justify the extra $8 grand to have an extra 100hp and nicer exhaust. the 5.0 still comes with the same interior, same 17" wheels. 3.17 differential, and pretty much nothing extra than a base v6 except a nicer front fascia.

overall the dealership experience was kind of poor and everyone was hustling around pretending to be busy, even though they were dead.

What should I do? Should I go with a deal like this? How can I make this deal better?

Did they say why the car may have 100 miles on it? I bought a new V6 in 2007 that was a demo with 2,000 miles on it. The MSRP was 19,995 and I got it for 15,995.

My 2011 GT had 120 miles on it when I bought it a few weeks ago. Judging by the April build date all of those miles are from test drives. Stuff like that doesn't bother me so I let it go. It is certainly understandable that you are concerned though.
 
I had a Jeep dealer try and sell me a car with 7,000 miles on it saying it was new!!!! I went mental and the salesman tried to convince me it was nothing, but when I was trading in a 5 year old car with only 9,000 miles on it, it didn't help his case.
Some salesmen are complete losers that like to waste our time as they feel thats how they get the deal. Both my wife and I value our time more than that.

SHOP AROUND, I bet you'll get a better deal.
 
From your description it sounds like you really didn't like the car so why would you buy it?

And if you had to "argue" with anyone at the dealership why would you do business with them?

Sounds to me like you need to look for a car you really want at another dealership.

In my experience of working at a toyota dealership for over 3 yrs, 100 miles on a new car isn't a problem. The dealership, probably would have done a dealer trade to find your grabber blue v6, which would result in that vehicle being driven from the closest available Ford dealership. So they really have no way of knowing the mileage. All of our fellow toyota dealers were at least 80+ miles away so it was common to see new vehicles with 100+ miles.

Demos usually have 500-2,000 miles on them.
 
Dude, the "5.0" GT has a lot more options than the V6, have you not even bothered to go on-line at ford to build and price the one you want? I walked into my dealer with the print out and said, this is what I want. They had to bring my car up from Georgia, so it had quit a bit more than 100 miles on it. No biggie.
I got exactly what I wanted, and I'm lovin' it. The only thing this car has that I wasn't expecting is the two silver/grey stripes. I was thinking of taking them off, but they have grown on me.

If you don't like the Mustang don't buy the darn thing. Life is too short and these things are too expensive to be buying what YOU don't LOVE. You may not like my setup, and that's cool, many here don't like the scoops and louvers, I do.

My point is simply this, the only way buying one of these cars is going to be "a good deal" for you is if you get what you love paying for regardless of how expensive or cheap it is. Otherwise it'll suck every time you write the check (unless you have enough to pay cash for it) each month.
 
yeah, id much rather want a v6 mustang then the v8, there isnt any difference at all besides you driving a car with a van engine in it, or possibly the best v8 ford has ever produced....
