well i decided to get myself a new pair of upper control arms and hack em up! i'm going to be dropping them 1-3/4in and needed to correct the ball joint angle. i used this technique for correcting the ball joint angle. the following pictures are after i cut the "wedges" out of the arms, and bent them down. tomorrow i am having them welded up. i'm going to have a nice thick bead on both sides that i dont plan on making flush, should be stong enough.

I put a brace under our arms with the same mod. The arms I see with a mod like yours at the track have a brace under the arm and/or a tab/plate welded in place over the cut. You could put it on the inside if you didn't want it to show. I didn't want our brace to show so I put it inside the arm, rather than across the bottom. If you don't race the car and check the welds every now and then you should be OK with what you have.
