I have a pretty much stock 89 LX. I bought a code reader and replaced the O2 sensors, TPS sensor, plugs, cap, rotor and cleaned the EGR valve, and adjusted the 70mm BBK TB to idle right. Things were running awesome then some how developed this issue of it shutting off for a second and restarting. Sometimes at slow speed it just dies. It's like I just turned off the key. Codes were 94, 44, 33 and it also reads as a 6 cylinder. Any suggestions? Transmission was just rebuilt however I don't think that's related but I could be wrong.

Sounds like it could be the ignition module on the distributor.

Interesting, I made a cable and moved that out front on a heat sink. That was awhile ago but I did change that cap

It could also be the PIP inside the distributor.

Either way, cutting out and then firing back on its own screams ignition to me.

I wouldn’t worry about the 6cyl display on the code reader. It’s quite common and means nothing.

That PIP is about the only thing I haven’t replaced. I have been leaning pretty hard towards ignition also. Thanks for the assistance

Problem solved, I found the shade tree mechanic repair. At least they could have used two zip ties

These are under tension or spring loaded and will push away from the white piece

Two zip ties would have increased the repair costs....

Funny how all of us have had the same issues over the life of the car.
