Does anyone what this part is?

It connects to a set of wires out the firewall. I think it has to hook up to the tranny somehow.

I have an after market shifter on my Top Loader 4-speed so the linkage would not work with a stock (reverse light switch? Neutral safety switch?)

I do remember I tried to unhook it years ago and the car would not start. Then I hooked it back up and all was well. It has just been sitting in the engine bay not bolted to anything but still connected to the wires that lead into the firewall.

Now the wires to it are in bad shape so I was wondering.

- Can I just cut and cap the wires?
- Or do I cut the wires and connect them together?

Can someone tell me what this is and what do with it?

Thanks.

That is your reverse light switch. When you disconnected it from the loom you also disconnected part of the wires (that are now bypassed because you have a 4speed) that go to the neutral safety switch for automatic cars. Use your test light and detrmine which part of the loom is for the reverse light switch and the other side make a kill switch out if it.
