Need a 69 Shaker Kit

Ok had anyone installed an after market shaker kit? If so what Brand and how good is the quality?

Next I have a 351W with the Edelbrock endurashine Performance RPM intake and a Endurashine 650 carb will one of the kits fit?

The carburetor needs to stay at the same height as stock. The Performer, the Torker II and the C9OX Shelby intake are the only ones I'm aware of that have the carburetor at the stock height, and that's without a spacer. You can get by with a very thin spacer. I'm using a stock '70 428 spacer on a Torker II, and it's about as far as you can go.

Unless you're willing to modify the shaker base, it won't sit down on an Edlebrock/Carter style carb. It fouls on the sides.

The best 'glass reproduction by far is from Ram Air products in New York. He made all his molds from original parts, and they are application specific. They shaker scoop itself looks very nice, but the midplate just doesn't look like metal. He goes to Ford Carlisle every year. Nice guy. I believe he still has one up on e-bay you can check out.

I bought an aluminium shaker and adapter(to the old style midplate) from karkraft with the though of fabbing up my own midplate and base in the future. The shaker is identical to the 03/04 mach 1s. It isn't exactly the same as the originals because the originals have smoother corners and the new one is kind of angular at the opening and the finish is a crinkle finish. Either way I think for both pieces it costed me 200 bucks but they are aluminium which I like better. I am running a performer RPM so I probably be stuck not being able to use the original 428 base and don't have the heart to cut one up to modify it.

What next

Ok now I'm thinking about taking off the brand now intake and getting one of the three that will work. Now I've read that the holes in my hood for the turn signals will be out side of the cut out for the shaker, whats up with that?

If I get the new intake that is stock hight, how about my carb is it the same size as stock? Or will I need to change it too?

Well I guess you guys can tell that I really want a shaker I have one on my Lightning and really want one on the 69 (the one of the two that is supposed to have one)

That is correct the stock hood scoop is longer than the shaker scoop and the holes you are refering to are where the wiring for the turn siginals ran through. You will need to either find a shaker hood or a stock flat hood with no scoop. Then you will have to find a template and layout the hole on the hood and cut it out.

I should have qualified my response regarding the carburetor remaining at the stock height if you are using the correct 351W shaker base. All of the non 428 shaker bases are just modified 428 bases that have an added lip to increase the height and move the shaker for/aft to line up with the opening in the hood. The 351W base height is 6.14, while the 428 is only 5.5, so by using a 428 shaker base, you will gain an additional 5/8" clearance. It might be enough to work with your Performer RPM. The 428 bases are a lot more common and often cheaper than the 351W piece because there were a lot more of them made.

New intake

Ok I'm taking the really cool RPM Air gap and now going with a performer for the sake of the really really cool shaker. I guess I'll ebay the other intake.

I'm going with the Ford Ram .com kits I'm pleased with it look cool.

Has any one with a 69 used a glass hood? where did you get it? How good did it fit?

are you still going with that endurashine finish on your intake? might want keep it in mind if your motor runs hot. I've had several people I have talked to that the endurashine holds in heat and seems to make their motors run a bit on the hot side. Just something to keep in mind.

OK guys I have everything together now and I did get the
FordRamAir.com Home kit that was recommended and the guy is very cool, my thing is what happens when it rains? I looked on Ebay today at some NOS parts and they have a door to close it off and takes air from under the hood. It rain's here (New Orleans) all duh time and if I get trapped away from home I'll be suckin Water!!

I also have a gap at the rear of the shaker how do i fix this? washers? its a big gap and I really don't want to see any washers.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rain. Not much will actually be ingested in the engine. My flapper is set up to open whenever the engine is pulling vacuum, and I've driven it in the rain with no problems. Most of the water will drain down the drain tube.

The midplate and the flapper are both available in reproduction (metal not fiberglass), but the midplate needs a lot of work to make it functional, and it doesn't fit or look as crisp as an original. Once it's installed however, it's hard to tell the difference.

As for the gap, you need to post some pics so we know what you're referring to.

it kind of sounds like you may need to find an angled carb spacer to fix the gap but like Gmachine said we realy need to see pics of the gap to know for sure.
