The carburetor needs to stay at the same height as stock. The Performer, the Torker II and the C9OX Shelby intake are the only ones I'm aware of that have the carburetor at the stock height, and that's without a spacer. You can get by with a very thin spacer. I'm using a stock '70 428 spacer on a Torker II, and it's about as far as you can go.
Unless you're willing to modify the shaker base, it won't sit down on an Edlebrock/Carter style carb. It fouls on the sides.
The best 'glass reproduction by far is from Ram Air products in New York. He made all his molds from original parts, and they are application specific. They shaker scoop itself looks very nice, but the midplate just doesn't look like metal. He goes to Ford Carlisle every year. Nice guy. I believe he still has one up on e-bay you can check out.
