Last weekend I got a clean 82 Capri RS 5.0 with 74k miles and no rust. I'm reliving my youth.
I get a lot of attention from the public, a lot of people have fond memoroes of foxbodies in their histories.

Didn't even look for a Capri forum, hoping I can blend in here.

I already installed a new clutch cable with FW adjuster and aluminum quadrant. There was no slack in the clutch cable It engaged all the way at the top) and I was hoping that the clutch was slipping in the higher greas because it was not being allowed to fully engage. Still slips but at least I can adjust the engagement point which made it driveable.
Car needs a clutch, and I'm thinking I'm gonna go with a McLeod Street Pro with a steel flywheel.
Car has a T5, 8.8 rear with 3.55s, and the motor has a mild cam, shorty headers, EBrock Performer aluminum intake, and Holley Brawler 650 vac secondary.
I'm not planning on doing anything more to the motor other than maybe throttle body FI.
I doubt I'll drag race it much, I have much faster cars for that.

In other words I don't need a clutch that will handle more than 400 HP.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Joe

Welcome and we pretty much all like the Capris. There may be a couple that don’t but we can ban them.

That is one clean Capri!!!

I like the RAM clutches and would recommend them.

Their version of the old Ford King Cobra clutch:

RAM OEM-Style Street Organic Clutch Kit 1996-1999 Mustang 'King Cobra' - 10.5 x 1 1/16-10 spline - RAM Clutches

RAM HDX clutch kits are ideal for vehicles that will see mild street and occasional track use. This performance minded clutch kit will provide more clamping pressure over a stock unit and can handle power levels up to 450 hp. All HDX kits feature an increased clamp load pressure plate while...

Next step up:

RAM HDX 450HP Street Performance Organic Clutch Kit 1986-1999 Mustang 10.5 x 1 1/16-10 - RAM Clutches

I ran the second one on my Coupe when it was around 275 rwhp for several years and it was really nice. Good grip and the pedal effort was daily driver in Oklahoma City traffic good.

It has this Ram clutch in it now. Overkill and probably wore faster than a full organic clutch. Seems like it should have lasted longer. To be fair, the clutch was way out of adjustment when I bought the car so it's likely it was "slipped" to death. How anyone could not notice the clutch slipping (engine spooling up with no change in vehicle speed, and this car is LOUD) is beyond me.

A lot of people like the Ram clutches.

So many choices. I like the Centerforce approach of adding centrifugal assist to a lighter diaphragm spring which requires less pedal force at lower RPM. Problem with this is it's TQ that is exerted on clutches, they don't care about HP (which is a product of TQ and RPM), most of these 5.0 motors (mine included) are not screamers, and they make less TQ at high RPM where the centrifugal assist is the greatest.
(energy = mass x <velocity squared>) but the extra clamping force at higher RPM could be useful in a motor in a high state of tune.

I had a Procharged C5 Vette with a McLeod RXT twin ceramic disk clutch, narrow engagement range, great grip. A PITA to drive in stop and go traffic. I have a Monster triple S in a Maggie blown C6 Z06, and multiple plates with organic friction material makes a very streetable clutch with massive grip. Way overkill for my Foxbody.

McLeod Super Street Pro has organic and sintered sides of the friction disk like the Ram that's in it.
I'll likely go with McLeod or Ram and shop for the better value.

Thanks.

I had quite a few clutches.
My all time favorite was a centerforce pressure plate with a motorsport disc.

Interesting to me that the clutch that they say (in their words) is an "OEM replacement", and is "not intended for competition" is $329, but....
their heavy duty clutch, that is considered a step up, and (their words again) is "For applications up to 450 hp" is only $269.

I always thought it was interesting that they market clutch parts by HP rating rather than torque.

Anywho, the OEM style likely has better/more materials for a street application even if, it's designed to handle less torque.
