Hey all, I was hoping I could get some recommendations on a good replacement ac compressor. The original one seized about a year ago and I found a cheap compressor on ebay. I swapped it out along with new lines and everything seemed to work pretty well for a few months. Lately the new compressor has been making some nasty grinding noises whenever the clutch engages. It only does this when the control is on ac, mix, or defrost.

Anyone have any solid replacement suggestions? To be honest this was the first time I've ever swapped out a compressor so maybe I did something wrong. It seemed pretty straight forward though, which leads me to believe I just bought a POS compressor.

Thanks

Check to be sure that it's only making the noise when it's kicking in/out. If so, you would likely get away with replacing just the clutch.

If it's making noise WHILE engaged then yeah... you prolly hvae a crappy one.

Quick update...I'm picking up a used compressor locally from a 95 GT. The owner bought it from MPS and only used it for about a year until it was removed for a AC/smog delete.

I've got a couple questions before I jump into swapping these again. Is PAG 150 the right oil for the compressor and O rings? If I flush this used model how much oil should I add before installation?

They aren't technically new since they are selling remanufactured units. I got burned on the last remanufactured compressor I bought after the clutch went south within 3 months of use. For less than a third of the price I'll take my chances with something that was at least working very well before it was removed.

Just need to know how much oil to put in for the install.
