I have a stick shift yellow 1995 mustang GT thats pretty much stock when it comes to the engine. I bought it about 4 months ago and havent been able to drive it much cause of the winter in michigan. The winter is almost over now and i deffinitly cant wait because im gonna do a few things to the car. I plan on puttin some new 18" chrome saleens on it from americanmuscle.com and thats all i plan on doin for the looks so far. Then i would like to put an off road x pipe and maybe some flowmasters or slp's on it but not completely sure. I also plan on putting some 373 gears on it cause ive heard that can increase ur 1/4 mile time significantly and its pretty cheap (around 200$):nice:. Other than the rims that i know im putting on, what should i do to it performance wise that would be cheap and easy??? The gears are cheap but the exhaust isnt really even know i want it really badly

On a budget? do the junkyard upgrade...

Gears - 87-88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe rear axle - disc brakes and 3.55 or 3.73 gears in one package for $125-$300. Use the disk brakes from your current system.

95-97 Ford Explorer intake manifold & throttle body $150-$300. The intake manifold flows 220 CFM +, much better than stock. Throttle body is 65 MM, bigger than the 60 MM on stock stangs. I got a 96 with EGR passages that match the stock setup, so my smog gear works just like factory. You’ll need a 65 MM EGR spacer & new gaskets for $65-$90 so you have a place to mount the EGR & throttle linkage.

Lincoln MK VIII electric fan -$40-$160. Free up some HP by not having to drive the stock fan. The 3G alternator upgrade is a must have prerequisite before you do the MK VIII fan. You won’t have enough electrical power if you don’t do the 3G upgrade.

Aluminum driveshaft: (courtesy of shawn13) It needs to be from a 92-93-94 AeroStar AWD or Electric 4 wheel drive. It measures 45 ½” center of the front U-joint to center of the rear U-joint. You will need the U-joint, part #PUJ353 from NAPA. The Canadian NAPA pat number is 1-0134BF. It should bolt right up after the U-joint swap.
Note: This driveshaft is not an exact duplicate of the Ford Racing part. It is 3” in diameter while the Ford Racing part is 3.5” in diameter.

Check to see if you have gears already. If not, they are needed.

Do the O/R pipe (for off road use only. :) ) but the catback is not gonna do much for you in terms of bang for the buck.

You're on the right track, gears are a good place to start. Somewhat inexpensive and you will notice a difference as you pull out of the parking lot. The x pipe is also a good choice, just make sure you have no emissions laws in your area before you get the off road. I cat back is not cheap and the performance gains will not be great on a stock motor but it will be worth it for the sound alone.

You can find Flowmasters pretty cheap everywhere. An O/R H-pipe will give you a deeper tone then the X-pipe will and be the same as far as hp goes. Gears are cheap but as pointed out, they need to be installed correctly and thats a few hundred bucks. But gears do make the heavy SN95 get up and go allot nicer. Don't forget, with gears you will need a new speedo gear and I am not sure if an O/R pipe will trip the MIL on pre-96 cars or not

I would def get a set of full length sub frame connectors because they make a HUGE difference on that chassis :nice:

with the o/r pipe if u have to do emissions, you can always swap pipes when the time comes. thats what i do and also a good many of people do it too.

move this to the 94-95 forum :P If you're getting 18" rims....get springs, we have horrible 4x4 gap on our cars, if you don't wanna do that....just keep the stock wheels for a while?? you can always find cheap combos on ebay too. As said before, gear install will set you back. Don't do the thunderbird rear axle thing, don't do the lincoln fan thing(we already have electric fans), don't do the alternator thing(we already have a 3g alternator), and don't do intake how he said to do it. IF you do get an intake, you'll have to get an elbow for it which can run $60-$90 depending on source, or you can sometimes find 94-95 cobra intakes or performance intakes that already have elbows on ebay or cl.
