FRPP 302 crate motor with the wider timing chain. The eccentric would not fit without hitting the timing chain cover. So... I installed a Holley Red electric pump which sounds like a blender crushing ice. I need either a quiet electric pump or some way to use a mechanical pump with the current timing chain, which would be too expensive to replace.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
jim

I have a Product Engineering pump, its a lot better quality then a Holley and a little quieter, might be overkill for you, but my brother has a Mallory 140 on his bug and it was pretty quiet.

I run a Purolator low pressure 30 gal/hr electric on my V8 Ranger. You can hear it run when the key's turned on, but when the truck is driven, you can't or it's just not noticeable. The exhaust is pretty quiet too. It's been enough pump to fully supply a three carbed, 400+hp 331. This pump was bought new at Advance Auto parts for around $25.

Another thing to maybe consider is where its mounted. I have mine mounted with rubber insulators to cut down on the noise but again once the car is running its no longer an issue.

I run a Mallory Comp 140 pump on my '85 GT. You car hear it run, but it's MUCH quieter than the Holleys are.

You can also machine down the eccentric to fit under the timing cover.

That should solve you clearance issues.
