ok, here goes guys,

I recently installed a new 302 shortblock in my mustang from coast high performance, that came equipped with an e-303 cam, forged pistons and rods. On top of that i installed a set of afr 165cc aluminum heads, crane 1.6 adjustable roller rockers, a trick flow track heat intake, kirban adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 24lb. injectors and matching 70mm mass air meter. I also installed a 70mm throttle body. we put the engine together and installed it. after hooking up the wiring, we attempted to start the car up. after a little cranking the car fired up, but would not idle, which was expected. we tried to adjust the timing, and fuel pressure, but could not get the car to idle. after a long night we called it a day, and agreed to come back the next morning. when we tried to start the car, it would only crank, but not start. after asking around, we agreed to check the rockers to see if they came loose, and the did. we retightened them, and tried to fire the car up again, but to no avail. I am at a loss of words. The car has spark, and there are power to the injectors, but when we pull the plugs, they are dry. I have no where to turn, and any help would be greatly appriciated. If you need any additional information, fell free to ask, and thanks again. Lenny

What's your fuel pressure look like? You still work at a dealership? I'm car shopping

Was it really easy to turn the shortblock by itself? Did you try?

Have you tried opening the throttle a little when you were starting the car?

How many times have you gone through the wires to make sure you plugged everything in correctly? If it's only been 2-3 times, then you need to do it again.

You need to go through each injector, and each spark plug wire, to ensure you put them back in the correct order.

Did you have to turn the dizzy a lot (in any direction) to get it back to the correct timing?

IMO, you should remove the dizzy again, then turn the crank to get the #1 cylinder @ TDC, then reinstall the dizzy and get the rotor to point to the #1 spark plug.

Just my thoughts on the issue.

tried turning the shortblock by ourselves, and had little problem turning it.

tried holding the throttle wide open, fully closed and everywhere in between.

yes....the wires have been gone over numerous times, along with all the grounds.

yea, we tried many different adjustments to get the timing in order when we're cranking it, but it doesn't make much of a difference, it just cranks harder sometimes if it's all the way to the left or right.

i'll give it a shot, i mean anything would be helpful right now. Thanks

What dealer do you work at? I'm probably going to be up in the Kingston area tomorrow, possibly as far up as Carbondale. You anywhere in that area?

Just remembered that we had a similar problem a few weeks ago. ProCharged 94GT. Fired it one night long enough to make sure it was going to run and then shut it down to bolt on all the accessories and route wires & hoses. It was a little rough but it ran. Came back the next day and it wouldn't start. Ended up going tooth-by-tooth with the distributor all the way around to find out that I was off in the other direction to start with.

Later,
Jared.

well, i'm not working there now that i'm back in school, but if you tell me what your looking for, i could try to find something close to it. and the dealer is in Nanticoke, which is about 20 min. away from kingston. let me know.
could you go into a little more detail on the solution to the distributor? Do you mean that it was 180 degrees out of time? if thats the case we already tried that. we weren't sure, so we turned the distributor 180 and then it started backfiring and such. so we put it back. still nothing. replaced pip sensor and ignition module as well. still have nothing. gonna look at it again later when i get out of class. thanks,

Lenny

This sounds like a silly question, but it isn't possible to check the A/F when the car isn't running is is? The reson I ask is because when the car was running, it wouldn't idle, and gave little time to check the A/F. As far as the pushrods not being the correct length, if they were too short the car woudn't have run at all? right? thanks guys,

Lenny

If the motor is that tight then maybe your valvetrain is too tight. Tell us about the pushrods. CHP recommend them?

I purchased the crane gold series adjustable rockers, and comp cams hardened pushrods. if part numbers help here they are:

c56 791716-----comp cams pushrods
c30 1174616------crane gold race rockers

those part numbers are from A&A auto. they're not the same as on the website as far as i know. the length is 6.25"

other than that, i don't know what info you may need, but feel free to ask.

You do know that you have to ADJUST the rockers and not just tighten them down. If you just tightened them down they are probably open all the time or not opening at all.

In your first post you said that the rr's came loose.

Focus your efforts on getting the valves adjusted correctly.

Also be sure your dizzy is timed correctly.

Does someone have a place they can refer me to, to make sure i did the adjustment on the rr's correctly. That may be very helpful. Is there anything else that can attribute to the problems with my car? thanks again guys,

We were only a tooth off, but when I went to move the distributor, I went the wrong way and ended up going all the way around.

I got a car last night, but thanks for the offer. Picked up a 92 notch from a private seller down near allentown. Black on black, 5spd, w/chrome ponies. It's only got 31000 miles and it's been garage kept. Still has some 'new car smell' left. I'll be up in Wyoming after lunch today. If you want I'll stop by and see if I can help you figure out what's wrong with yours. Let me know.
later,
Jared.
