Got a problem. I just tookmy car through the car wash and about 5 mins later I was just driving like normal and I heard a snap noise, not loud but you could hear it and the car suddenly lost alotof power and was making a ticking noise, when I get on it it does not have near the power it did. It runs and idles smooth yet is ticking and has lost alot of power, what could this be? Did I blow a plug oris it something worse?

No.

The best way I can describe it is I was driving at about 40mph in 3rd, car infront of me slowed down and I shifted into 2nd, soon as I put my foot on the gas I heard a faint snap or pop noise from the druivers side front and the car instantly lost alot of power and was making a ticking noise. It runs(not good) and idles smoothly. It lost alot of power and sounds like a truck. Im at work so there is nothing I can do now.

Now if it was something bad like a spun bearing or a bad valve seal would the car run? Im fearing the worse. Its just wierd that it happened right after I left the carwash, it was running so smooth and so strong. Any ideas?

Plug wires all on tight? Let the car cool and check the oil level.

I am surprised that the CEL is not on because it sounds like a misfire/clogged injector since you say it is smoothly idling.

No knocking/detonation? Does the car struggle to start?

Spark plug is my bet.

Let the engine cool down, remove your coil packs and see if a plug is flopping around... if you have some tools check them with a socket and see if they are loose.

I did not wash under the hood. Car starts as it normaly did, just fine, idles like it did, just fine. It is making alot of tiking noise and has lost some power. Oil levels are fine, I just changed it last week. Im gonna check the plugs when I get home. Any other ideas please let me know and thanks for your thoughts.

Took it through the car wash...does this mean you sprayed under the hood also?

Spark plug being loose or blown gets my vote. Let us know what you find out.

So I pulled the plugs and all were ok but 1. It was the second from the back on the drivers side. The plugged was covered in a black slug which I would imagine is oil. Cleaned it up and still no difference. Im sure this is not good:nono:

So the short story
-heard a pop noise and car became sluggish and made a loud ticking noise
- found oil covered plug
- cleaned and found no difference
- loud ticking and very sluggish

Ok give me the bad news...what is it?

Sounds like a ring issue. Could be a valve seal. Does it smoke when u get on it or anything? U might have to have someone watch for u. My motor dead in one cylinder and 1/2 dead in another, it barely smokes and only when I hammer on the gas.

Rod knock. Sounds like it was just coincidence and the engine choose that time to let loose

Need a recording of the sound its making. Also, just for my curiosity, check the intake piping and make sure its not leaking after the MAF.

Hardly any smoke at all. What is causing the ticking noise? Do you drive your car with the dead cylinder? My car has no pwer, feels like Im driving a semi.

I drive the piss out of it with the dead cylinder. Planning a full motor pi swap here in a couple of months, plus its not my daily so not really worried about it letting go. I just don't venture to far from home with it. :rlaugh:

Oh and check what svt said, that is possible. But does sound as if something let go inside. Just bad timing as to when to do it.

WHOA! You can hear the friction in that video. I'm gonna agree with Laser on the bad rod - or you may have thrashed a valve (slim to no chance if you're running stock cams). Pull those valve covers first and see if everything looks normal. How about some in-car footage? Drain some of the oil and look for metal shavings as well.
