Hey how are you guys ? So last night I went and bought a 01 mustang gt with 112k in good shape. I test drove the car and all was great. The man was asking 4k and I explained to him that I was a wounded warrior and had to sell my 04 mach 1 before I deployed the last time and would really love to have another mustang. I asked him if he would take 3k as that was all I had and he said yes sir and thank you for your service. So I paid the man and drove off.....I got about 5 miles away and it started pinging very bad and had no power. I pulled into an autozone and used a scanner. The scanner showed a misfire on the #5 cylinder. So I bought a coil pack and after I installed it the problem was still there. I checked the oild and it was very tacky. What I believe he did was drain all the oild and fill it will either motor honey or lucas. I called the man and asked if he would take the car back and I would even let him keep $100 and he said tough luck it's sold now not my problem. Has anyone had this problem with there motor. It sounds like a ping in the bottom end. I do not have the money to put it in a shop, but need a car asap so any help would be great. I also live in Orange, Va if anyone lives close by.

Sounds like you got took. Change the oil to verify the "ping" is worse with standard oil in it. If it is worse then chances are you have a rod bearing problem in the bottom end. The engine will need removed and overhauled/repaired or replaced. Pics and videos are welcome here.

Are you still getting the cylinder 5 misfire?

The whole situation seems fishy to me. That's is a cheap price for that kind of car. I think the guy knew what he was doing and hosed you. Sorry. If the ping is still there after the oil change then you may have bad bearings. I dont know if that would totally explain the lose of power though....might be a fuel issue. Maybe drain the gas and put some good gas in it and see what that does. Also might want to check in the fuel pressue at the rail, just to be safe. Make sure the injectors are firing right too. Some misfire codes are triggered by lack of fuel.
