Need Help Busting Into My Car

I have a 93 Mustang, and I've locked my key in it. It's not my daily driver, but the key ring did have those keys on it as well. Luckily, I have a spare set of daily driver keys.

What's the easiest way to bust in? Try to pop the lock? Open it via the inside door handle? Defeat the latch? Go in through the hatch? Pick the lock? Break down like a little girl and call a locksmith?

I'm sure I'll get some crap for this, so flame on!

The easiest way is a Brick.

Locksmith is my vote. That is the least likely to damage the car.

What ever you do don't break the rear quarter glass. When I had to have my roof replaced that was the most expensive part.

Ummmm, we dont even wanna' know that story. :(

Going in under the door handle is another option (to get the linkage). I've never done it but some folks say it's quite easy.

Here's the story. It's not spectacular.

I want to mount my Sparco race seat, before the RallyCross this weekend. I was measuring the bolt pattern of the stock seats, and just threw my keys on the hump where the rear seats used to be. I even told myself "don't lock the keys in the car stupid". As the door was swinging shut, I realized that the keys were still in it. I frantically grabbed the flashlight to see if it was true, or if I threw them on the ground nearby instead. It was true. Two coat hangers and one window molding later, I gave up.

I locked my keys many times. I use a long metal piece about 10 inches. A long thin screwdriver would work to. I go under the right side of the door handle close to the hinges. Just feel around for the door lock rod and just push it up. It's real easy to break into our cars. Good luck hope this helps.

hmmm well the police stations around here have thouse "slim jim" things that slide down into your door and pop the lock. maybe give yours a call and see if they can help you? i had to call the cops once and it only took him about 30 seconds to get the door popped. beats paying for a locksmith!

Just make sure you dont have anything "interesting" inside when he does get your door open ;)

There is another way to get in but it's more destructive.

You can jam a large screwdriver into the door lock and push the entire assembly so it pivots sideways and it will pop the lock open when it pulls on the rod.

Saw a friend do this to his exploder rear hatch.

when i locked my keys in at school the local cops put a air pocket in between the window and car and pumped it up enough to pull the window out so they could reach in with a rod and pull out the keys. Took like 2 min.

The last time someone tried to break into my stang they used this method. What sucks about this is the locks are sold in sets. So you have to have a locksmith re key the new lock to match your old key, OR replace all the locks.

Once the alarm tripped, the would be thieves skedaddled.

I bought an alarm with a proximity sensor the next day (after filling out the police report).

:OT:
In the Great Seattle Blizzard of 97 we saw about 3 ft of snow in a few hours. Many parking garages and car ports collapsed under the weight of the snow. Yours truly was paying extra to park my car in a covered stall, so the car would be out of the weather. :bang:
The roof had to be cut off and replaced. Amazingly, the carport did not damage the sunroof, so I had no water damage inside the car.
Even though bad things happen, I seem to have pretty good luck. I could have lost several grand in car stereo equipment.

Story times over, back to work

If you wanna crawl through the hatch, near the liscense plate there is a peice of metal riveted ontho the hatch under the lock cylinder. pop these rivets, then remove the hatch lock cylinder and use a flat head screwdriver to unlock the hatch. No damage to anyhting important, but a little involved.

Ive broken into mine 2 ways, i got a metal rod from Lowes, made a "U" at the bottom and got it to push up on the bottom of the little plastic thing u use to lock ur car. Recently I had to break into my car and of course my rod i made was in my car so that was worthless  .....soo I unscrewed my antenna bent it up a little bit, used a spare rag i had and screwdriver between the door sill and car to make space for my antenna and pushed down on my unlock button and unlocked my car. Kinda ghetto but it worked good especially cuz theyre real stiff....but now my antenna isnt perfectly straight :(

Locksmith might be the best bet. I've tried a coathanger and a slimjim on a stang before and didn't have any luck. I called AAA, and they said someone would be out within the hour. 59 minutes later he showed up, had my car open with a slimjim in about 10 seconds.

If you don't have AAA though, I think locksmiths charge $70 or 80, so I would probably try some of the suggestions people have given.

Definitely do NOT break out the quarter window though. They are not cheap!

the slim jim/coat hanger methods are hit or miss - some can do it and some can't. I've tried several times w/ both and was horribly unsuccessful. I've even tried it when door was open to "learn" how to do it, popped the inside panel off the door and looked around in there and still couldn't do it w/ a coat hanger.

Make a spare set or two for occassions like this.

I think a locksmith charged me $80 or so to make a new set of keys, so I don't know if it would cost that much just to pop the lock or not.

Good luck!
