my dad wants to buy a new car and is willing to spend up to $35,000.
here are the candidates so far:

1) 2005 mustang gt
2) 2004 pontiac gto
3) 2005 nissan 350z
4) 2005 chrysler 300c
5) 2005 infiniti g35
6) 2005 nissan maxima or altima

it's gotta be auto trans so my mom can drive it too.
no aftermarket mods, gonna stay stock.
the car will be for everyday normal driving.

which car should i convince him to get?

I have personal experience with all of these cars. These cars are all very good but, but some serve different functions. Figure out what the most typical use of the vehicle will be. Example; if the folks carpool regularly with other adults you can rule out everthing but the Maxima, Altima and the 300. If you need a back seat then the 350Z and G35 aren't for you. If you want acceleration performance, how much? Is handling and sportiness important. How much trunk space do you really need? What kind of ride quality do you want or are willing to put up with?

Looks are subjective so I won't go there.

1) 2005 mustang gt- good all round performance, limited back seat space, good ride quality
2) 2004 pontiac gto- good all round performance, limited back seat space, good ride quality
3) 2005 nissan 350z- best handling of the bunch, small car, room for 2, little stiffer than the mustang/GTO
4) 2005 chrysler 300c- v6 power is mothing to write home about, magnum has good power. handling is probably worst of the bunch. big back seat & trunk, great ride quality
5) 2005 infiniti g35- similar to 350Z but suspension is a little softer for the "luxury ride", more luxury than the Z
6) 2005 nissan maxima or altima- probably the most reliable of the bunch, plenty of room in either vehicle and decent performance for a four door. great ride quality

hope this helps

Is your dad aware that '04 GTO's are advertised for 23,999.00. You can probably get one in the 22's. Pretty good car for 22k not worth anywhere near the 34k sticker.

Hands down the best of the bunch is the G35. Great performance and excellent bang for the buck considering resale is much better than any on the list. The 2005 w/MT has 297hp.

My mom has a G35 coupe and the back seats is not that bad unless you are over 6 feet tall. Im 5'11" and am a big guy and fit back there comfortably on most normal trips. Anything over an hour might be pushing it for adults though.

It does have more room that my stang in the back thats for sure.

Here are my pics

2005 infiniti g35
2005 nissan 350z
2005 mustang gt
2005 nissan maxima
2005 chrysler 300c
2004 pontiac gto

The maxima is a great car and they look good, but dont even consider the altima, they are not worth the cash and the maximas are not that much more.
