I had my stang in storage for about 4 months and today I started it up and I heard a squeak and noticed smoke was coming out of the the botton left pulley and was not turning , Is that one the smog pump??? And can I just replace the pulley itself or will I have to buy an entire new one?? Took a quick picture of it, help me out guys thanks.

my first thought would be to bypass it but that may not be doable. take the belt off and seee if you can turn it by hand, see if it is binding on something. Also check to see if everything else is in aligment on the belt. I would call ford or checkers, they may have a new pulley for it. I know they sell the pulley/clutch assembly separate for the a/c so you might be in luck.

Your smog pump seized up. Replace it $100-ish or buy a smog pump delete kit, ($45-ish), if your state's emissions will allow it. We don't have emissions here

I thought new pumps were only like 25-30 from most parts stores.....

If you need to pass emissions you can't remove it.

It is easy to replace yourself. Parts stores charge about 40-50 bucks for a reman'd version. LRS also sells them for about 50 bucks, IIRC (I dont know if it is new or reman'd).

The pumps use vanes that are on a shaft, and that shaft follows an elliptical path. Corrosion can really create some issues inside there, when a pump is not used for a bit (that is a tip from Jrichker about time of non-use taking them out).

I opened one up to clean it and you can see that a little main bearing play (run-out at the shaft) would REALLY create issues with the vanes hitting the walls (what the one on my 94 does).

Good luck.

If you mean the lower pass side of the motor, its the smog pump. I changed my 266,000 mile original earlier this week with an Autozone unit, $35 plus a $10 core charge. Takes 30 mins or less.

You can try to take the belt off and turn it by hand to break it loose. If you can, it will be ok for awhile.

These have a very large surface on the rotor, that is very close to the casing. If they do not turn, surface rust can quickly jam them. Early ones were notorious for doing it during shipping when the cars were new!
