Installing an '85 HO into a '90 RX-7. I don't really know about the engine. I just finished getting it bolted in, now I have to find out what goes where.

Any help is appreciated.

1, oil pressure sender?

2, I was thinking brake booster, but doesn't that come from the carb?

3, for the heater?

4, I was told I could just put a small filter on it, true?

5, no idea, but there was one on the other side as well.

6, no idea, but that oval passage dead-ends about 2" inward.

7, coolant temp sender?

8, the coil, what do the wires go to?

9, I was told this is the starter solenoid, what wires go to it?

10, I was told these are cobra headers. I'm guessing this is the o2 sensor bung, is there a preferable way to cap it off?

11, and lastly, the carb that summitracing said I needed for my application, apparently doesn't fit. It's an Edelbrock, I believe it's 500cfm. It hits the lip of the valve cover on either side. Is there a simple solution?

#1, oil pressure sender. Your's is missing the actual sender, but i'd run an autometer mechanical gauge there anyway

#2, def vacuum, but unsure where it goes

#3 One goes to the heater. The lower one. There should be a return port somewhere on the upper intake for it. The upper nipple has a short tube that connects it to the small nipple coming out of the thermostat housing that you can see in the same picture

#4 PCV related, but unsure where it connects to.

#5, EGR related. They bolt to the backside of the heads. Remove this tubing and plug it up with a plug.

#6, it's where the mechanical fuel pump plugs into.

#7 may be the return line for the heater?? Unsure on this one

#8 + 9, unsure on the wiring.

#10 Cobra headers are the same as stock Mustang headers. Nothing special about them. The o2's connect to the midpipe, not the headers. That can be blocked off.

#11 get a carb spacer

as far as #7 - the heater hoses - the pipe further to the right on the water pump, goes to the little nipple on the thermostat housing.

the other pipe off the water pump goes to the heater core. the other side of the heater core is plumbed into that hole at the left front of the intake (pass side) and the temp sensor goes there as well. (the gauge sender should go at the drivers side front of the intake.)

Thanks for all the replies, that's awesome. I'm excited about getting this finished.

Another question, is there a way to know for sure which way my water pump is supposed to spin? I've been told that the '85 HO should have had a serpentine belt, but evidently someone put a V-belt pulley on here.

The water pump, as you can see, doesn't have a pulley on it at all, so I'm not sure if I need to just put a v-belt pulley on there, or if I need to swap all the pulleys to serpentine.

Seeing as how a v-belt pulley would have it spin clockwise, and a serpentine would have it spin counter-clockwise, is there a way to know which way it needs to spin?

4 goes to air cleaner (small filter)
5 smog related, both of those ends are supposed to be connected and then they run down and attach to the exhaust pipe.
6 fuel pump
9 passenger side inner fender
water pump should be counter clock wise

one more thing buy a 4 HOLE spacer to put underneath the carb. you can get them in a couple diffrent sizes looks like maybe a 3/4 inch spacer should give you enough clearence for your throttle stuff to clear the valve cover.

know any history of this motor? those sure arent '85 HO valve covers, that looks like a painted cast iron intake, not the aluminum that should be found on an HO and an HO would use a serpentine accessory drive, not V-belts...looks like someone threw some "Cobra" headers on a non-HO out of an LTD or truck or something...

I agree. I wouldn't get too excited about performance with this combo. The RX-7 isn't exactly a lightweight car with an 80 pound rotary engine in it and you just added 500+ pounds to it.

The stock rotary, stripped to bareblock, is about 200 lbs. I liked the idea of having something more upgradeable, plus the guy needed a 13b and this kit, so I figured why not. It's a hobby.

I'm bring up the issues about the type of motor next time I talk to the seller, thanks for the info.

Oh, and I put the cobra headers on there, the seller threw them in with the motor. I was told they'd flow better, so I swapped out the other ones that were on there.

Does anyone have pics of what an '85 HO motor looks like? I'd like to have them side-by-side next time I see the guy (I talk to him regularly).

Awesome, thanks. Any pics of the valve covers? I can't find any online, all I can find are newer.

I'll be calling the seller later today. I'm really disappointed. I met the guy a few times, he's a really good friend of one of my friends. He builds up cars and sells them for a living, and he said his roommate is a huge Mustang fanatic. So I know he can't say he didn't know.
