lower intake..
Get some black rtv and a permatex right stuff. I don't use the cork end gaskets or even the rubber ones. The right stuff is a thick rtv that has a very strong bond but is not used for coolant ports which I'll explain later.
1. make sure all surfaces are clean then get 4 bolts from a hardware store, you can bring your intake bolts to match them up but you want long ones since you need to cut the heads off or you can use the egr/TB spacer studs, they screw right in also. If you got new bolts cuts the heads of them and screw them into the four corners, hand tight, these are used has guides for the intake.
2. use the regular black rtv NOT the right stuff. put some on your finger and spread a thin film around the coolant ports on the head and intake. This will help the gasket seal around the coolant ports preventing leaks. The reason not to use black stuff is it is very thick and doesn't compress as well leaving a chance for a leak..this area only needs a slight coat to aid in sealing.
3. place 4 dabs or small beads if you will of right stuff at the 4 corners where the heads meet the block, this will seal the tabs of intake gasket when they sit at this point.
4. lay the intake gasket onto the heads.
5. apply a min. of a 1/4" bead of the right stuff starting about a 1/4" up the intake gasket, across the engine block, then part way up the intake gasket on the other side the same 1/4". do the same for the other end.
6. slowly lower the intake down using the guide studs to keep you from over moving the intake and messing up the rtv. install all the intake bolts by hand, then remove the studs and install the remaining intake bolts.
7. Follow the torque specs which are 23-25ftlbs. and torque sequence but go over the whole pattern atleast 3 times. The first bolts you tightened will now be loose as the others are tightened. going over them again atleast 3 times until they all click at the right specs.
8. let it sit over night after you finish putting all together then start it, fill with coolant and check for leaks.
The upper is easy like stated no sealer needed.
If you are using stock headbolts the torque spec is 1 step 55-65ftlbs then 2nd step is 65-72ftlbs. you need to get a book like stated also or find a chart for the torque sequences for the lower intake and heads..this is important.
