I have an 89 gt 5.0 that has issues as far as kickdown with the transmission....the lovely aod.....really more of a pain then anything....the car is stock other then a bbk cold air intake....i have read articles on adjusting the throttle valve cable but still unsure of it totally....got the metal clip out and tried to get out the plastic clip on the cable but so many articles don't go into details on this adjustment....believe it is an adjustment issue or a sticky linkage.....never had an auto 5.0 before and need help....the timing is good set at 10 degrees and in neutral or park you can give it throttle and it doesn't hesitate at all....only when in gear and seems to be slugish on the kickdown.....espically when it is cold.....the car just doesn't have the get up and go a 5.0 should have even though it is an automatic.....have even thought about trying to make it a t-5 and do the whole 9 to make it a 5 speed....any help would be appreciated.....why does this 5.0 run like crap? the motor has 120,000 and the transmission is strong with plenty of pulling when in gear....no leaks....just needs some tlc....but not quite sure where to start....i have already timed it and cleaned the k&n, throttle body, and idle speed sensor
