Need Help on Front Rotor 01 GT

Does anybody know what size socket is needed to pull the nuts on the front rotor of an 01 GT? Just wondering because it's a little bit bigger than the largest one I have and I need to run to town to get one. Thanks for the help. Talk at you guys later.

Well, I just did that today. The caliper uses 11mm and the caliper bracket uses 14mm I believe. All four bolts had red threadlock but a two foot bar broke them loose easily.

Did you pull the rotor? Do I have to pull the nut on the inside to pull the rotor off or can I just tap the rotor itself off?

Yes, I pulled the rotors because I took them to a shop to have them re-surfaced.

That center nut in the center of the rotor holds the hub bearing assembly on the spindle of the steering knuckle. It is 36mm but no need to remove it to get the rotor off.

What exactly are you needing to fix/replace?

Well I didn't think that I had to take that center nut off to remove the rotor but I just can't seem to get the rotor itself off. I'm just trying to replace the rotors and brake pads and am having hell trying to get the rotor off. I was reading in another forum that you just have to beat on the rotor with a rubber malled for a while until it loosens up. Did you have some of the same problems changing yours? I have never had mine changed, this is the first time since I have had the car.

My rotors came off pretty easy. I tapped the side of the "hat" on the rotor and it sprang loose. Just give that part a couple taps with a metal hammer. Do not pound the backside of the rotor unless you have a plastic face dead blow hammer.

You could also spray some PB Blaster in the crack where the rotor sits on the hub.

Thanks for the info. The tapping worked, we finally got them to come off, just the drivers side so far, now on to the passengers side. Thanks again.

are the caliper bracket bolts supposed to have the tread lock on them. Are you using it when you put them back on. Also is there a torque spec for them.

I did not use thread lock. I torqued them to the german torque spec; "goodntight".

yea i use the same german tourqe spec and no locktite.
