got a 400 hp mustang, and just got my nitto 315 tires......i know how to do a good burnout, but how should i launch......street and strip.......what rpms, and how do i let out the clutch.......
There really isn't one specific way to launch your car. You'll have to experiment with numerous RPMs to get the launch that hooks -- too many variables -- track prep, weather, length of burnout, etc. You'll probably want to also experiment with slipping the clutch versus simply dumping it although slipping the clutch with 400 hp could be a recipe for clutch failure.
I can tell you this much -- launching a 400 hp car on drag radials on the stock 28 spline sticks is a sure fire way to get a ride home on a flatbed tow truck.
He is saying you need to get some 31 Spline Axles and tough differential, like Auburn.. then just be ready for a clutch if you are doing a lot of launches.. From my experience, I get the best launches N/A by not dropping the clutch at any rpm, but letting out on the clutch while simultaneously quickly pressing the gas.. Well that doesn't help much, but there is minimal slippage. Just find out how much rpm you can go before you start spinning bad.
with a stock rear end i wouldn't launch over 2500 rpm. nitto d/rs suck the first few times on launches,you definately need to burn through a few layers of the tread. also when they look almost bald is when they're the most sticky, in my experience. they hook real good at about 12 psi.
I have the same tires. I am N/A now so I slip out the clutch at 4000 rpm. I am installing a blower though this month so I will also be near 400rwhp. I plan on building the rear end and running slicks.
You're far less likely to break something on DRs than slicks. They just don't hook as hard. I'm sure someone will come in here and tell you they broke on DRs. Its a crapshoot. I've probably launched 75-100 times on my DRs with no problems. I launch around 3,000-3,300 rpm and slip the clutch. I usually drop the PSI to 15. 12 would probably be better though.
ya, i don't want slicks yet, i'm to busy working on my engine....but i'm sick of doing crappy times at the track and losing to street races with my friends, because i have to much power and no traction
