Winder, GA
I have a 1988 LX and I am having some issues with the paint (I believe it is Cabernet Red). First of all the paint is faded really bad. Second, I am getting some paint chipping going on around the side of the hood, on the front quarters (by the hood), and the pillars next to the windshield. Third, I am getting some very small rust spots where the paint has chipped off. I believe that there is no clearcoat on the 88's. My question is what can I do to the paint to make it look good and get rid of the rust without spending a bunch of $$$ until I can save up enough for a new paint job (Little one on the way so it could be quite some time). I know some polishes and waxes wont be right in my situation. Thanks in advance.

well depends on how much you want to spend... Mine was in similar fashion when i first got it. Go to your local auto paint store, or some autoparts places have this stuff, but mcguiars (cant spell) makes it. Its in a tan bottle, an there are different flavors depending how bad the paint is, an how far you want to cut. Apply with either a hand applicator, or high speed buffer (which i did but watch out for swirl marks). When i get home, i will get the exact name of the stuff. As far as the rust goes, there really isnt nothing you can do about it...
