For those of you that have done this what all will I need???

I am getting this engine off of a friend and he has pretty much everything including the wiring harness and computer from the 03.

do I need the computer? I think I need the wiring harness? Also what trannys came stock on the 03? were they still using a t-45 manual (I forget)

From what I have read people have said just to keep my fuel system and ignition and just transfer that to the new motor....

Can I reuse all the accessorys from the 03? or do I need to swap my accessories to it?

Please help if you can.....I need to get this info asap. Also what kind of time is involved in doing this??

hey

Hey You should do a search on this at modular department theres many people who have done it. Right now im in the process of doing it im basically done. I put a 2002 gt motor in my 98. You use your original harness, spark plug wires, coilpacks flywheel if you want to use your 98 clutch, fuel rail because the new ones have returnless and are car isnt setup for it. Some people say to change the front timing cover so you can bolt on all your accessories from your original motor but alittle customizing and you can bolt everything on the 2003 timing cover. You will also have to cut a few wires on your original harness and replace them with some clips from the 2003 because some of the accessories have differnt plugs for example (alternator)
You will also have to have the second sensor from your old engine taped into the new motor because the new motor is setup for one sensor. Most people tap it to the aluminum cross over. I was lucky and for some reason i had a crossover on my 98 and i just swapped it onto my 2002 motor. The one bad thing is the 2003 isnt setup for spark plug wires so the alternator bracket has no spot for the clips but you can customize that any way you want. Everyone says to disconnect the a/c and power steering from the block when removing the old motor and then bolt it back onto the new motor when you drop it in because it bolts right up and you dont have to discharge the a/c and drain the powersteering. A good idea is to add some aftermarket headers while the motor is out. Thats what i did because its so much easier. Um i cant think of anything else but im sure ive forgot a few things. But you should go to modulardepartment.com and go to there forums and do a search on pi motor swap. I hope i helped alittle. If i can do the swap anyone can.

yeah this helps......how long have you been working on the car??

also i beleive this motor is complete with all accessories and probably the power steering and airconditioning.....can i still just swap it all in.....or do i have to use my accessories from the 98?

I was also thinking of adding some headers while doing the swap....probably just go with FMS shorties...as it is i am strapped for cash otherwise I would probably do longtubes.

Why are you swapping the entire engine? You just need the heads and the intake

its my daily driver so I didn't want to do something so invasive and run into problems......

However my problem is solved because I am a happy owner of a new car to me 99 Cobra  GT is up for sale :flag:
