To start with TCI and B&M said ,I need 2500,converter

The car is an 89 mustang , with a 302 HCI , 10psi of vortech, 373 gear c-4 , 25 inch tire

The cam is a trick flow stage -1 ---- 221 dur on the intake and 225 exh, with about 530-intake lift and 540 exh lift with 1.72 rockers

What do you guys think? sound right?

its a street and strip car

thanks

its going to be a C-4, street and strip

ok first. avoid B&M. Pure garbage. Second stall speed is only part of the equation. Different manufacturers stall at different speeds.

Are you retaining the stock 2 piece input shaft (lockup) or using a 1 piece ( non locking)? You want to go with the smallest converter for less weight. Non ballooning, brazed is best. I would call the following companies as they have great converters and customers service

Edge
PTC

You are probably going to be 2600-3000 depending on what your purpose is.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

for street/strip a 2500 stall speed is about right for your combination.

That is what they say at Jegs and Summit,-- [2500]
but when I call precsion, edge, or Ultimate converters, they add about 1000 more to it or more

Don't listen to the tech advise on summit/jegs. Go with the experts opinions/advise. To maximize track performance(while being streetabIe) would expect around a 3500rpm stall would be ideal. I know a few people who drive 8" high stall conv(5k+rpm) on the street. Now these are very limited street miles and optimized track cars.

it depends on what you are telling them the actual use of the car will be. if you tell them the car will be used as a street/strip car, and will see very limited time on the street, cruise night, perhaps driven to work once a week at most, and the rest of the time it will see strip action, then yes a 3500 converter will do just fine for the application.

however if you really plan on driving the car on the street regularly, like two or three times per week, as well as seeing track action, then the 2500 converter is the better choice.

I told them all the-[exact]- same thing , that it would be a street and strip car ,50/50 , just like that

This is what Jegs/Summit look at,
my cam stage 1 trick flow, says its power band is from 2000 to 5500

but you have a vortech that the powerband is higher. You don't start making boost until higher rpm. Did you call PTC?

yes ,I did call PTC, they seem like good people ,like Edge

and yes my power band is a little higher with the sc, it falls off after 5800

Edge says they take the max horsepower and take away 2500, and thats is your stall,

PTC said about 3400 would be good

ultimate converter said 3800-4200, but their price is crazy
