Need help with Hood clearance......

I am building a 393w,

I was using a Performer RPM on my 351w....that with my 750 holley and drop base air cleaner housing with a 3" tall filter...Just gave me enough clearance with the turn signal hood.

Now, I have bought a Vic Jr Intake which is 0.95" HIGHER than my RPM intake.

So, I bought a 2" tall filter.......BUT it will not work as it is too low with the drop base air cleaner housing?!?

There is about 1/4" I can cut off the flange on bottom of filter housing.........BUT I still need more........

Any ideas?????


Also, I hear the Duraspark distributor has clearance trouble with the Vic Jr intake....anyone know about that????????

Either the motor goes down or the hood goes up. I thought about with the motor still in the car taking the frame mount bolts out, lowering the motor and welding the lower motor mounts to the frame. I'm not too sure on drive line angles, but a little studying it should be do-able. Mine fits for now so I will cross that bridge when I can't close my hood.

Do you need the choke?

I had a similar problem and switched to a carb (which I bought for other performance reasons) that just so happened to not have a choke tower on it so I was able to eek in my clearance.

That is a SWEET Quick Fuel Carb..........or are my eyes wrong?

Depends on what "look" you're going for. The old school drag racers used to put 1 inch shims between the hood springs and the hood. Old Skool cowl induction. The front of the hood remains normal, the back of the hood (near windshield) is raised an inch. Depends on how much spacer you put in it...just a thought....

I am not familiar with the term Quick fuel carb...its a Holley style completely done over by Bigs Performance.

It's the company that makes the profrm main body. they make race carbs also. they anodize their carbs real similar to that holley. Also no choke, adjustable air bleeds...etc.

Quick Fuel is a company that builds killer carbs....I have one.

That carb looks like one they put out.

But I see it is a Bigs.....which apparently is very good as well.

The flow thru lid actually requires more space on top of the carb than a standard pizza dish lid. It have a a supporting structure to support the lid filter element.
