I just finish porting U/L 94 Cobra intake In a few days I gonna polished upper than install right away , BUT there is a few problems ,
#1 Can I use my stock bolts on Cobra intake(somebody said boltd on Cobra are longer ,is that true) ???
#2 I didn't ported that much lower ports toward heads because I have stock E7 heads and ports on E7 heads are smaller , what lower gasket I HAVE TO USE ,same like I have now (for GT intake Fel-pro gasket kit is MS93334 ) or for Cobra (94-95 Cobra have gt-40 iron heads and gasket kit is Fel-pro MS95952) I have matched those two lower gaskets and Cobra gasket are wider about 5-6mm
3# What else I need
I appreciate any help

I can answer 1/2 of your question. You will need longer bolts.

I just used the Fel-Pro lower intake gasket for a GT with my Twisted Wedge heads... I guess the Cobra one will be fine because it has the upper to lower gasket too.

Other than the gaskets, the only thing you should need besides tools and the longer bolts is some RTV.

Use felpro gasket 1250, Dont use the cheap cork gaskets they give you that go in the front and back. Just use a nice bead of silicone in the front and back.

My dad said to only put some RTV where the rubber front and back pieces meet up with the head gaskets only and not to go across the whole rubber pieces Said that it will cause an impropper seal if you use RTV all the way across

There is four longer bolts. The longer four of the six bolts on the upper intake. Fel-Pro makes a stock replacement intake gasket for 5.0 EFI. It is the same size as a fel-pro 1250, but it also comes with rubber ends that work extremely well. I would just put a light coat of RTV on the gaskets around the water jackets and also dabs at the four corners and it seals perfect every time. You will also need to purchase a cobra/gt40 upper to lower intake gasket. Ford Racing sells them in packs on 5 and I am sure you can buy them through Summit.

No, you just toss the rubber or cork pieces and use the RTV in place. Simply run a thick bead(1/4") all the way across the block.

I used the GT-40 bolt kit from FRPP. It comes with longer bolts to install the upper. The actual FRPP Cobra intake comes with longer bolts too if I remember.

Yup i do that everytime and it seals. The cork pieces always leak.

I second this guys father. why not use the gaskets the frikkinRTV is a pain in the butt to remove . and the gaskets seal just fine as long as you READ DIRECTIONS
place the rtv in the corners where the gaskets meet. on the cork or rubber gaskets u place rtv over and under the corners of the gaskets and be sure that there isnt a gap. also note that you have around 15 min. give or take due to weather and temp to set the lower in place and torque it down to specs.

EDIT: if you dont clean the surfaces well enuff then listen to the guys who toss the gaskets and use only RTV.

For one the RTV does not cause a wedge affect or pull up on the heads when you torque the lower. The cork or rubber seals create a resistance when you torque the lower, that resistance is what makes them seal. Also you KNOW the RTV will not leak b/c it is like glue. When you remove the lower simply stick a small-bladed knife under the intake, front and rear, and cut the RTV sealer before pulling up on the intake. The lower will pull right off then.

i said nothing about a wedge affect. but now that u mention it the wedge affect doesnt allow the lower to drop down as far as the rtv does. is this suposta be good? did ford calculate the port alignments for rtv or gaskets? is the gasket tweakin the lower intake from all the wedge affect? its the fact that rtv is like glue that makes them such a pain to remove as well as the fact that scraping isnt enuff to remove the rtv completely a light sanding or chemicals will be required. and that just sucks. the gaskets dont always come off easily as well but can easily be scraped off and dont leave as much crap to clean up or i should say they leave pieces that are much easier to clean up.
As for just using a blade to cut the rtv apart have you tried this or just heard it was possible cause that was the worst part of using rtv for me. im sure if the engine was out of my car it would make a world of diffrence.

Thanks hawaiian I've installed 3 lower intake gaskets the same way I mentioned (2 cork, 1 rubber) and I've had no leaks at all. If the RTV is just going to get squished out anyways, whats the point on putting it there? If you do the install properly, you shouldn't have any leaking problems.

Joe, Jose, and I used a 1/2 giant tube of RTV on ours. Just remember, the more you use, the longer you should let the car sit before running it. Once the oil bathes that RTV, it will never dry properly.

Also, when you use a lot, and you place the intake right away, the RTV will still be soft enough to fill in any loose spaces.

Zach, he is right in the sense that if it starts hardening too fast, then YES, it would seal properly.

I'll measure mine tonight and let you know, my intake is off the car right now. I just set the upper onto the lower and stuck a stock bolt up next to the hole to test fit length and added to compensate for enough thread engagement (you can see the area in the lower intake where the bolts thread into). Then went to Home Depot and bought some good bolts that were the closest in length to what I needed. They've worked for me the past 1 1/2 years. I will post up actual lengths later tonight.

I cant afford a whole tube of RTV when I did my intake RC Also, I just remembered that when I first put my intake on first with cork pieces and used RTV all the way across it, I had a small leak out of the back. I guess its just personal prefence on which way you want to install it. If it seals thats all that matters right?

We used the blue rubber pieces that go along the ends, along with the RTV.

DAMN, YOURE CHEAP!!! ( I cant afford to redo it by NOT putting enough RTV)
