I'm in the process of swapping EFI into my '65 fastback and have run into a problem. The Pro-M MAF, air tube and K&N filter will not fit without relocating my battery to the trunk which I would rather not do. I need the total length of the entire combo to be about 18" from the center of the throttle body to the tip of the filter and the Pro-M setup I got is about 6" longer than that.

Looking at pictures, it looks like the C&L MAF and elbow are a lot shorter than what I have. The search on this board does not like the term 'C&L' (too few letters?), but I thought that people didn't like that setup for some reason. Assuming it will fit (anybody have any measurements from center of TB to tip of filter?), is there any real reason not to go for it? BTW, I have 24# injectors and an Accufab 65mm TB.

If not, does anybody have any other suggestions for a compact setup that will work reasonably well? I'd rather leave a bit of performance on the table (as long as it still drives well) to keep from having to relocate the battery.

Thanks,
Jeff

you could run a 24lb stock unit they are rather small in length or get a shorter filter

i dont know if this helps, but here are some pics to give you an idea of how big the C&L intake tube is... (for reference, the TB in the pic is 70mm...)

edit: i've never thought about this before, but i'm thinking you could cut the intake tube down if you needed a bit more clearance (i might actually do this now that i think about it). btw, i'm not a big fan of the C&L intake tube because it rubs my strut tower, and makes my k&n filter pull out of the ram air box as you can see in the pic. i have "somewhat" resolved this issue, but i'm still not happy with it.

oh and i'll add this - this is just another chance for me to give a big if anyone is considering getting a ram air kit!

Length wise, it looks like it may work. Since my car is a '65 fastback, it is hard to say if I'm going to have any clearance issues at the shock tower. In my favor is that I will not be using an EGR spacer.

Does the C&L kit come complete? I've seen some Ebay auctions where you tell them what injectors you have and they send you what you need. Is this the MAF that changes calibration with some sort of tube and you bolt your stock sensor to the housing or am I thinking of something else?

Since this is a swap and I don't have any stock parts, I'd have to pick up a sensor.

Hmmm, I dabbled more with this stuff on the two '92 GTs I had so I would know my head from my a$$ on the EFI. This swap would've been a lot easier (well documented) if I were using a stock setup instead of the B-cam Ford motor.

Thanks to all who can help.

Jeff

the black plastic pro-m's are shorter , and the c&l uses a sample tube to account for the calibration

you can buy just the C&L maf housing for about $150 (IIRC), or as a package with the intake tube for about $200 (what i have). either way, when you order, you have to specify what size injectors you have. if you look in my pic, there is a tube (with yellow paint on it) which is sized to let the right amount of air-flow through it to provide the MAF sensor with correct readings for a specific fuel injector size. the actual sensor remains stock (even with different tubes and injector sizes) but the tube sizes change to compensate. they are removable and you can buy new ones so you don't have to buy the whole MAF again if you swap your injectors. i think they run around $20-$25 for a new tube.

Hello,

i build my own cold air intake with a c&l. Now i have pro-m plastic piece.
The pro-m is bigger than the c&l. My battery is now located on the driver side.
Here some pictures from the conversion (text is unfortunately in german)
