hey guys this is my first mod motor stang. i'm going to the track on sat.. the car has 200mi and will probably have only 250 when i pull in. first things first is this too early? i want to get a baseline in stock setup. second, temp. should be in the mid sixties, it's all stock with a 5spd. walk it out or try to rev and dump? stock radials also. i'm comming from a blown 5.0 so this is a differnt world for me. i have not drove it much but couldn't pass up the track day(local club rented it out). thanks alot

With stock tires you can not start at a rev. you will almost have to feather the clutch to stop the spinning. Hope you can make a few passes. also if you have traction control put a post it on your window to turn of your traction control. If your not use to turning it of you will forget.

omfg. u have some serious cojones. :nice: nice color too.

have had bad luck with dumping on street tires thus far, but i also am a pretty sucky driver, at least thus far in my 3 wk. legal racing career.

i have best luck thus far slipping the clutch as u roll into the throttle, but your car is new, so no way would i do that. just go from idle or slightly above and see how she does for u. and work up from there.

i never went to the track when i had stock gears or stock tires, so ?

thanks for the help. i will post all info sat. night! hopefully no broken parts to report. this should be interesting, this thing is stock stock. i had the same problem in my old 5.0. i was on radials and kept trying to dump the clutch. twice i walked it out but slammed 2nd and spun like hell! same with third. what kind of numbers should i be looking for?

until you get used to the car and the tires i'd say mid 15's... I ran a 16 flat with 380mi on the car...new best is 14.8, haven't ran with the gears/tires/exhaust.. Should be able to get to mid/low 14's but thats with perfect driving and conditions.. I'd look for high 14's as a goal for the first trip out. :nice:

not really. i was at the track once with my old car. my numbers should tell that.
12.55 @ 115.9 60ft was like 2.2 or 2.3 i forget
this was a 5.0 with p1sc @11lbs trickflows and every other part you could change. i think i'm ganna start by rolling out easy but play around later in the day. biggest thing i don't want to break anything. when i had the 5.0 there last pass blew both headgaskets(too much timming not enough octane) stripped it to put a cage in and lost interest, parted it out. now i'm starting over

IF you can get good at slipping the clutch the best 60'' you can possibly see is a 1.9 on stock rubber but it takes alot of practice expect more along the lines of 2.2-2.3 60's if the temps are good and not much humidity and you can drive it decent from there I would say a 14.1-14.5 will be the best you can do. Shift about 5500-5700 rpms anything out of that and you'll be past the stock powerband and lose mph and slow your e/t down.

Practice your launching that will be the hardest part to overcome. Your gonna have to slip the piss outta that clutch I'd recommend starting about 3500-4000rpms on the launch and just slip it from the light.

Good luck let us know how ya do

1.8 on stock rubber is attainable.

ok guys you all have given very good info. i have noticed that it feels like it starts to nose over around 5500. i'll post again sat night with all the info. this way you guys won't have to look for the post. i'll even post if the nubers are bad. hey everyone has to start somewhere. as far as slippin the clutch, i owned a civic si for a brief stint(saving for the stang) i was able to get that down to 15.4 from 16.6. all numbers were from a gtech. do know how accurate but it was down on the same road, so the improvement was still there. we'll have to wait and see. i think my biggest problem is ganna be the 1st to 2nd shift, no matter how many times i tell myself i allways stab the clutch and slam it home. kinda like a wimpy powershift. but on the test drive with t/c turned off she turned sideways. that was kinda cool. they let me take the car by myself. (i know the owner of the dealership) talk to you all on sat. bob

When I picked up my 03 Vert last fall, I hit the dragstrip the next day. The only thing I did before going was pull out the silencer. My best run was a 14.2 on a very cold track. Your biggest problem will not be the 1st to 2nd shift trust me. It's the 2nd to 3rd shift that feels like it takes 3 mins. on the track. You should get an even better time seeing that my Vert with the Mach 1000 system is pretty heavy. Just go and have fun. Your times will improve as you do more runs. I can't wait to go back this spring. That night I went was the last night of the year that the track was open. :bang: .

ok we got rained out. they let us make some untimmed passes but not from a stop. all were rolling. we were trying to dry out the track. 1st to 2nd was tricky but i missed third twice. we got resceduled till tomarrow. it's ganna be nice and sunny, so check back tomarrow. bob

So you were the guy with the brand spanking new car, I couldn't forget that. I see guys running 14.4-13.9 stock at keystone. So what are your plans for that car?

nuef, i guess you were there also. i think i remember c-ing your car. going back tomarrow? are you running the magnaflows or packs? make sure you come over i want to hear your car, i'm thinking of running magnapacks. the future is a little hazy right now. i just got my old car back yesterday. it needs a motor and tranny but has full suspension done, gears, and an 8pt cage.. so i'll probably build that one again. i was ganna do long tubes with o/r x and magnapacks and use alittle spray. i did the blower thing on my old car, just looking at trying something new. later bob

here we go:
temp was 70 with humidity @ 48
60' 2.04
1/4 14.1
mph 96.1
this was my best run. temp went up alittle and i wasn't lettin the car cool down and ran three 14.6's @ 93mph.
i was pretty happy with the 14.1. the car had 300mi on it, and yes i was slippin the clutch. i tried differnt launches but ended up with the 14.6's.

it seemed as though i was loosing some time when i ran it up to 5500. on the 14.1 i shifted alittle shorter around 5000. also it seemed like it took forever to get through 3rd. i'm guessing gears are in order. hey nuef what did you end up with? did you try the right lane? i left after we were talking on the return road.
