I need help with my heater core! Can anyone give a complete breakdown on a step by step instructions on how to remove it? Or just give a link to some instructions! I greatly appreciate it! My Haynes Book sucks on alot of detail, or lack of there of! Thanks,

God Bless America!

You, and everyone here, need to have the Ford Shop manual. It is about two inches thick and, for my year, a light blue color. You can buy them from any of the parts houses.

Basically you just take out the heater box. Open the heater box while it is out of the car. Then remove the heater core, it is very much like a small radiator. Put in all new foam and rubber seals, then re-install the box.

Ok- write up for doing the heater core on my '70 sportsroof.

Get someone else to do it (if not, go to next step)

If too stubourn- unhook lines going to firewall (if A/C- unhook those too).

On my car I pretty much had to pull the entire lower dash off, along with the upper dash, glovebox door, console, etc to get the damn thing out.

Take lots of pictures, invest in the manual, and grab a 12-pack for the celebration cause once you've finished you do have reason to celebrate.

Also- good idea to get heater core and/or evaporator pressure tested while they are out.

THe Swede

I agree with the swede, although probably not as tough as his 70 sportsroof. You may need to drain some antifreeze from the radiator, and also be sure to have something to plug the hoses with. I made a mess all over the carpet, even after the radiator was completly empty for removal.
