Need new master cylinder on 66 GT?

My brake pedal is getting stuck leaving the brake lights on.

I took my 66 GT to my local mechanic. He looked underneath the dash and said there was brake fluid leaking into the cab. Said i need a new master cylinder.

Do i need one? Or is this simply a connection issue with the pedal?

you likely have two issues here;

1: the leaking fluid means you do need to replace the master cylinder, this would be a good time to upgrade to a dual master cylinder from say a 75 granada with manual brakes

2: the pedal sticking issue is likely going to be a bad bushing in the pedal support, the one right next to the clutch pedal takes the most wear and is the one that is in the worst shape. again time to upgrade to better bushings, perhaps even a roller bearing.

You can buy a new dual master cylinder for a '67 'stang from NAPA or most other parts stores, it is a direct bolt in swap! Did it for my '65!!!

What did you wind up using for a proportioning valve?
A stock '67 version?

The 66 GT will aready have a Proportioning valve. To hook up the Dual bowl Master, simply install the rear brake line out of the single bowl master into the front chambeer/Port of the Dual bowl, then hook up the front brakes line into the rear bowl/port of the Dual bowl.

The stock distribution block stays put. No need to change Proportioning valve unless defective.

65stanger's car was not a GT, so I was wondering what he put in to handle the brakes.
