5th and reverse are goin out.crapola where can i get a cheap reman or the parts to rebuild mine (95 5.0 5 speed) and good info on how to do it. i think the drive shaft is bent from hitting the tunnel and is where all the problems are coming from. so im taking out the 2" lowering springs and getting a 1" drop and a new alum ds, im getting a bad vibration when i get off the gas and i am still in gear. i wanted a alum ds anyway but i didnt want to mess with the trans so i hope this is the fix or this mf will be for sale!

is it hanlonmotorsports that has the video? I can't remember for sure. How are 5th and reverse going out? What is it doing? I have heard of gears "going out" in autos...but not in sticks.

And i seriously doubt that the driveshaft is bent....

Something else must be wrong in there.

If the d/s is bent it will not matter if you are in gear or not. The vibration will jsut get worse with speed (mainly) then load. So I too doubt the d/s is bent.

As for the T-5 I know mine too is getting close to rebuild time and I am in the air between straight rebuild by me, rebuild by someone else (time is at a premium) and upgrading inly when i need to...

I dont know for u guys but for me, when i got estimate of just under $500 to rebuild my t-5....i decided to put that money towards the tremec since i KNEW it wasnt going to last anyway. Its a 1/3 of the cost...and i would be mad if in year the tranny did break.

I cant imagine what would actually cause the DS to bend. Maybe be out of balance or something. Do u have gears?

Ford doesn't exactly have the greatest rep for balanced driveshafts; the tbird and large truck guys have a ton of problems with them. Gears will amplify this problem. If the shaft isn't balanced well it'd feel like it was shaped like a banana at high speed.

The vibration could also be caused by a bad u-joint.

U can say that again...shortly after getting gears i got a new FRPP DS.

u joints are new. when i try to shift into 5th it grinds and i have to try at least twice to shift in to 5th and if i get it in gear and let off the gas it pops out of gear. and sometimes it goes in and pops out of gear a couple of times but the shifter doesnt move. could the vibe be from a bad bearing, chipped tooth on a gear or a bent shaft ( i feel it the the most when i down shift into 3rd and im not on the gas, then i speed up an it stops?) reverse just grinds unless i sit still for a few seconds after i stop (syncro's?)

If you're looking for a good reman .... I got mine from Phoenix Hard Parts for $695. It has held up great. But I now wish I had just done the G-Force upgrade ..... as I will soon be adding lots of power. Then bye bye T-5 .... :(

I'm just going to rebuild it, I have the cash for a new one but I want a new hood and paint. Im going to get a steel bearing retainer, a bearing and syncro kit, but what other parts wear out (besides gears) that I might need cuz i dont want to have it torn apart and have to wait a week for something that i didnt get to come in the mail.
