Need opinions on Mustang purchase

Hi all,
Looking for some opinions on what year Mustang to purchase. I have wanted one for years now, but didn't want it as a daily driver but something I take out on nice summer days. But now I have some extra cash and I'm looking to purchase a GT convertible as a second car, and between the years of 1997 to 2000 because they are in my price range(12,000 or less). Is there anything I should look for when searching for the right GT? Is there any year that I should consider over the others? And I am leaning toward a 99 or 00 because most have lower miles. Just looking to drive it once in a while, take it to the drag stripe maybe a few times a year, and would like to modify it. Also, I read something about cracked intakes, is that a widespread problem or just a fluke. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try to get a 99+ that doesn't look like it has been raced/modded much.

Trust me, you would rather have a used un-modded car. This was it is less likely to have problems already and if you wanna mod it... you can have all of the fun.

that tranny is 01 and newer , intake problems were mainly on the 98 and older ones , plus the 97-98s have the non power improvement heads and intake 215 HP , versus the newer ones have the PI heads and intake 260 HP

OK, so I should look for a non modded 99 or 00 then?

I would look for one with less than say 60K miles or so , and light mods like CAI or gears , catback wouldnt worry about , but not a car that has had major mods like supercharger or NOS and then removed for sale ...

Your best bet would be a 2000 driven by a professional woman, i.e. likely never raced. Never get the first year of a new model. Yeah, most of the 'Stang didn't change from '98-99 but you never know what Ford did and whether they worked out all the kinks before production.

The only problem with that is that the oil was not changed on a regular basis and all four rims have been mangled on curbs.
